Final result ...
I spoke to the operations manager of SimplyDrop who has now authorised a full payment as promised. However at the time he did admit that he still hadn't found the phones.
Apparently some opened envelopes got mixed up and it looks like the money for my iPhones has been sent to someone else. Fortunately that's no longer my problem as I now have my cash. However there are some lessons to learn if you are going to use the service :
1. Don't overfill the envelopes (I'd say 2 phones max).
2. Make sure you keep the IMEII number of the phones you send (thanks to O2 who were able to recover the IMEII numbers from the mobile phone records).
3. Always drop your envelope off at a post office and get a proof of posting. For valuable phones, think about taking out extra insurance cover.
Other than that ... would I use the service again ?
Well I guess some of the operating practices are a bit dubious, but at least they rectified the error fairly quickly. So I suppose you can make your own mind up here.

I sent off 3 phones and recived a text message to collect £45 from any post office. After visiting 5 post offices in my area, not one would or knew how to pay out my money. I called Simply Drop and was told everybody has been trained. After chatting with the head of post office counters who also new nothing i called back and asked for my money. they said it would be posted out to me and still waiting two weeks later. Called again today and was told they will look into it. By the time i've finished calling everybody it will have cost me more in phone calls :-(0

I submitted a registration to sell my phone to them for £100. Got envelope but left it a week or so and by the time they got it it was bang on the 2 week deadline before the amount went down to £76 (as value dropped). Got confirmation msg saying phone was received and 2 days later got cheque for £100. Very good service I thought. I did send it via special delivery though to make sure it wasn't lost or anything.matched betting: £879.63

i used Simply Drop a while back for my Nokia 95. the case was tatty and scratched and the screen had a thousand micro-scratches. there was also some misting behind the screen after the phone had got severely wet in a rain storm some time before. nevertheless, i received the full amount for a fully working and operational phone.
i was generally very pleased with the service i received from them.0 -
Really relly dumb question sorry, but I can't find it mentioned anywhere on the site - it is correct that it's just the phones not the chargers that You send back to simply drop?0

I had no problems with Simply Drop. I sent the phone and got the money by Paypal in a few days.
My only gripe is that they tell you to use Special Delivery and make you pay full price. This is an expensive way to insure a £98 phone. As Simply Drop are part of Royal Mail they could provide a Special Delivery envelope. However this is a minor gripe and means they are no different from other providers.0 -
Hi used the royalmail simply drop service and within 8 days of applying for a bag received £98 into my paypal account !!! all worked PERFECTLY ! brilliant service, am going to use it again THQNK YOU:beer:0

I was a bit nervous about using Simply Drop having read some of the feedback on here! I didn't manage to get the £26 quoted on the comparison (I got £25 - I'd checked all the other links and this was still the best offer)
I sent the phone in (bubble wrapped because the envelopes really don't offer any protection!) last Tuesday the 23rd March. I didn't get an email confirming they'd approved the phone although when I checked the site it showed up on Friday as being approved. The text message arrived this morning and I got my £25 at miday! I took the text to our little local post office. The very nice lady was a little confused but went along with the instructions on the message and between us we got the money!
I think it was 10 days from registering to payment and 6 days from sending to payment!0 -
Can't fault the service: had the whole process done from applying for the envelope, to receiving my cash (best quote on the net to boot) within a week!
Would recommend Special Delivery, and like the above poster, a small quantity of bubble wrap for extra packaging to ensure a trouble free transaction)
