Well done on the wins and glad some of the money has come through.0

A week til payday and I'm £221 overdrawn on my NatWest account and over £3000 overdrawn on the other. Still got £750 freelance income due (overdue) - one client said she would pay "this week" so I eagerly awaiting the postman. Other client was on leave this week so I can't chase.
I just read some random pages from my diary, including one year ago, and the situation is absolutely unchanged - struggling to make ends meet and OH refusing to get a job! Something has to change!
I am considering listing a load of his books on Amazon. He has said No every time I suggested it - but I am desperate to make whatever money I can. Not sure if this plan is just childish anger/revenge though. What do you good people think?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I would give him a deadline - either find a job by XXXXX or put the books on amazon as a way of bringing some income into the house.

thirded....
Is there nothing he can do creatively to keep his hand in with what he loves and make some money. Given he's currently making nothing, any income has to be worth it.
I was thinking -
Art lessons for adults who never had the chance at school. Never too late, private lessons in their home for people too shy to stand up in an evening class and say "Hi I'm Jenn and I can't draw a straight line with a ruler".
or
Cartooning lessons for kids. Help develop their fine motor skills in a really fun way. Help them design comic books where they write the story as well to bring on their English (or foreign language skills).
or
Doing sketches for family events or cards. Dad's 60th - a cartoon commemorating the hilarious time his son accidentally ran him down after just passing his driving test - stuff special to them that they would like to remember but no-one can draw.
or
Cheap and cheerful designs for businesses. Logos that small start-ups can afford. I'd love a couple but professional design costs are prohibitive. Cartoons to illustrate flyers or leaflets.
He's got such a talent, it seems criminal he can't make some even small amount from it.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Thanks all! Jenn - he could do any of those things, and do them well, but he just won't put himself out and about. I sympathise with him as I'd hate to do it too... but needs must.
I had a word about Amazon and he said he'd go through and take out any he really couldn't bear to part with.
To encourage him, and avoid any accusations of hypocrisy, I have decided to look up every single one of my books on Amazon. I'm fairly sure I've sold everything saleable, but I still have an awful lot of books on the shelves. So I'm going to have an early dinner, then spend the evening listing.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
In my opinion, you cannot be seen as hypocritical......you are bringing in a wage.....or two!!
Good luck with the listing, though, and I hope that it encourages him to do the same.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Seaxwyn you are much nicer than me. I would have snapped by now and inserted said books somewhere which would have drastically reduced their resale value!:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0
