We're having a thunderstorm. First one (as far as I am aware) of the year...

Same here - lights keep flickering and I'm just waiting for the power to go off.

I'm loving hearing about everyone's houses - we all seem to mostly have 3 bed semis!
Dusty - If I did all the levels in one go, it would probably take me about 2 hours a day too. Kitchen is the worst and landing-bedroom the easiest (probably only 30-45 mins). The boys rooms aren't too great either, just because the rooms are small but there is lots of stuff piled in and toys just get shoved into whichever box is closest.

Blimus, we live in a studio flat, so we have one long room with a bed at one end and a sofa and chairs at the other. In the middle there is a bookcase with a fold out table which DH likes to have down most of the time and I prefer to have up as it takes up a lot of space!
The kitchen is kind of seperate - partitioned off with cupboards, altho there is a gap so you can watch tv while washing up which is good!
Bathroom is seperate and is kind of in two rooms - the sink is in one room with a big shelf and some cupboards and then you go through another door to where the bath and loo are.
I find it harder to clean here than when I lived at my parent's house because there is not enough space! But I'm getting better at it thanks to the flyladies! Hoovering is the most dificult thing as you can't get into a rhythm as you are forever changing direction/squeezing through a tiny gap between the wall and bed or through a door or banging into the wall or furniture!

I'm going for a nap now, feeling very tired and a bit sick and my head hurts and my eyes hurt

Blimus, our house was built in 1690 and was originally 4 terraced houses for miners. It is an end terrace. We have 4 bedrooms upstairs, a bathroom and a long corridor from one end to the other. All bedrooms have a hand basin except one.
Downstairs we have a hall which is large enough to be another reception, Loung/ diner, kitchen/diner, dining room, study/playroom/spare room and two more bathrooms. The lounge is 10m x 5m to give an idea of the scale of things to clean in this house. I forgot the downstairs corridor and two porches.
It used to be a B and B, restaurant and bar. You can probably appreciate why I need to have family to help me as I am disabled. A new motto ' the bigger the house the more mess you can make!'

We bought for a bargain price as most people don't want a house of this size that has so much that needs doing to it. I call it 'the money pit' like the film.It is also pretty remote.

We had no electricity again last night from about 9pm until 4 this morning. I wasn't ab;e to post much in the last few days as the ower kept going off and eventually we unplugged the computer as we didn't want it to blow.

  • Mine is a 3 bed semi with a huge garden that goes up hill - unusual in flat Lincolnshire.....

Lil-me - great news about the new home - sounds like it will be great.... less hassle but I know the actual move is stressful. My Mum has finally started packing by herself as I have been poorly this week so I am not going to help her this weekend - what bliss - does that sound as bad as it looks to me?

    • [STRIKE]shower[/STRIKE]
    • Take Tamiflu and other tablets x2 - have done 1 dose
    • strip my bed and tumble dry as it has rained and looks like more
    • Move stuff in utility room that is in front of TD as cannot open the door at the moment:o
    • Put up hanging rail downstairs for Mum's stuff
    • HHC in LR to clear the sofa - will need more than this but it will be a start
    • complete DD's forms for her new Saturday job that starts tomorrow
    • Help DS complete his persaonl statement for application to Uni
    • Open 10 letters - file or shred as appropriate (have not been opening post for some time now) - please dont tell me off - I know this is really really bad!:o - done 3
    • Order more tablets from America
    • forgot to order prescription from GP
Mmmm not doing so well now as feel quite tired - still will try for a HHC at 13.15 if anyone is interested.

Hmmmm dont know what else to try. I have mixed it with yog, rice pud and even ice cream with choc sauce but he still shudders and it makes him almost sick which is why I use the oj to wash it down. Hmmmmm need to get the thinking cap on......

I used to mix powdered paracetamol for my kids with a spoonful of jam or golden syrup when we ran out of calpol. It seemed to help. Or something else he likes like chocolate spread. Sorry I can't remeber if you have tried that yet. The smaller the amount of it they have to eat the better, so a teaspoonful of his favourite jam mixed in with tamiflu, maybe?

Just wondering what everyone's houses are like and how it affects your flying (and because I'm nosey :rotfl:)?

    Your cottage sounds lovely :-)

Our house is fairly modern - less than 15 years old. There are three very large bedrooms and one smallish bedroom. Upstairs there are also two bathrooms, both a good size, one of them is the ensuite for the master bedroom. Downstairs there's a long hall, a big living-room, a dining-room which always needs tidying because it mostly is used as a study (it's where I'm sitting now), a conservatory where we eat through the warmer months, another bathroom and a large eat-in kitchen. The kitchen has a door into the garage, which includes a utility area (washer, dryer, sink, cupboards, chest-freezer - and I've put up shelves to make a sort of pantry). The front end of the garage is home to more bikes/skateboards/balls/etc than I can count).

It's a nice house, but not nearly as interesting as some of the rest of you have described. And with being fairly new (and sold as a "luxury home" by the builders lol), it's a fairly easy house to keep clean. However the small matter of having six busy children living here changes all that...

    Blimus

My house is again, a 3 bed semi.

Downstairs, the wall between my kitchen and dining room was knocked down so they are now open plan and my dining table is seperated from my kitchen by a breakfast bar type thing. (against this breakfast bar is where the clutter gathers!)

The Dining room wall through to the living room was also knocked down into an archway so you can go straight into the living room from there. There is also a door from my kitchen through to the living room, which would have originally been the hall.

I have no downstairs hall as such, as they knocked this wall down too to make the living room bigger. Which leaves about a 2ft x 2ft square behind the front door at the bottom of the stairs which is my hallway!

Upstairs, I have two double bedrooms and a box room. The box room is DS's room, which was his choice. There is also the bathroom, which is a fair size for us.

I have absolutely no storage space in my kitchen so my garage (which is not attached to the house at all) houses a big fridge, two freezers and my Tumble dryer. In my kitchen I have one under counter fridge which I keep the necessary bits and bobs.

My garden is on a hill, so looking out into the back garden from the kitchen and dining room you are looking up the hill onto my back garden and driveway (the garage is up beside the driveway)

Looking out the living patio doors, the garden goes down the hill. There is decking round the front of the house to level it off a bit and then bushes and shrubs (which grow like nobodys business) in front of that, then some grass.

I dont know how long it takes to finish the lists, cos I rarely finish them! :rotfl:

Bathroom is definately the quickest, and since I deep-cleaned the living room last week when I was painting, that doesnt take too long either, I just need to try and keep on top of it.

Bedrooms are next, and I would say the kitchen takes the longest xx

Im pretty carp at describing it, but will post photos later.

Need to go and get little one from school! xx

:D:D:D I have also potted up the plants in the greenhouse, which is on my extra's list. Not sure what we're getting for that this week...

dusty -I don't actually have that holiday feeling yet - I just feel shattered! I am sort of twitchy and restless as well, but not relaxed yet - maybe next week.

Not caught up on the thread...but noticed about the houses: we live in a three bedroomed detached house in a small close, which we built (or rather OH did!) as part of a selfbuild group about 22 years ago. We are vaguely looking at moving, but I'm quite attached to this house - and as the children are now 19, 17 and 15, I guess they'll be thinking of moving on - really not sure whether to look for a bigger house and garden or not. I'd really like to have a go at a new and bigger garden.
