How DARE you party without ME!
    :rotfl:
since DS's mate decided to stay over (again) they were on the PC and I couldn't get back on. I am going to fold the bedding he had inside the duvet since it's been three weekends on the trot that he's stayed and it seems ridiculous to keep washing the bedding...So 'his' duvet cover, sheet and pillow case can be used again, by him, before I wash it. I have another spare duvet cover if necessary. I'm thinking of getting him a toothbrush! Mind you doing bacon for breakfast probably NOT a good idea - hardly the way to put him off!

Read the 'thinking about changes' thread - well skimmed it - what they need to do, if they don't like us thanking is give us a 'bookmark' button so that we can locate exactly where we are because, frankly, I find the 'view first unread' does NOT always take me where it should.

Right Boddy - narrowed it down to Emmerdale have we? If it had been me I most likely wouldn't have recognised her - but I did once say hello to Bernie Clifton thinking I knew him (and he knew me) - well not unless TVs are two-way LOL - sounds like you had a good day.

Ah well onwards and upwards -I'll catch you later

(I am in the process of decluttering my freezer). There's a cornetto in there from LAST summer but I don't like ice cream and the kids won't eat it. I have now got rid of

Valli - sounds like you need a laptop or another PC for your birthday :D

For those of you worried about Swine Flu, I've edited the advice from work (PenPen can you let me know if I should take this down - I don't think it's medical advice, as work aren't allowed to provide it, just an FAQ sheet based on what work have been asked). Hopefully it will be helpful for those of you who don't work for large companies with business continuity teams doing pandemic planning!

Swine Flu (Influenza A/H1N1): Frequently Asked Questions

    Some background information

    1. What is Swine flu and how is it spread?

Swine flu is a specific kind of the influenza A virus that can cause respiratory illness in humans. Flu viruses are most commonly transferred when an infected person coughs or sneezes, but infections can also live on hard surfaces such as door handles and handrails for several hours.

    2. What is the difference between seasonal, epidemic and pandemic flu?

Seasonal flu refers to normal flu viruses which circulate in the human population and cause widespread illness each winter. It is the cause of approximately 4,000 deaths a year.

An epidemic flu affects more than the expected number of cases and is localised to one country/area.

A pandemic occurs when a new flu virus, which people have no immunity to, emerges and starts spreading easily from human to human. Affecting several countries or regions, it is a world-wide epidemic, which may last 3-4 months with the possibility of a second and sometimes third wave some months later and could potentially affect approximately 25 per cent of the population.

    3. What is the current situation?

On 11 June 2009 the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared that Swine flu had reached pandemic levels when over 70 countries in the world had reported cases. So far North America has seen the most cases but the UK has also reported a high number of cases. The company is currently on an increased state of alert. Our priority is to look after our people and ensure we are able to cope with any sudden changes in circumstance.

    4. What about severity?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) considers the overall severity of the influenza pandemic to be moderate, with most people recovering from infection without the need for hospitalization or medical care. Overall, hospitals and health care systems in most countries have been able to cope with the numbers of people seeking care, although some facilities and systems have been stressed in some localities.

How you can protect yourself, your family and colleagues

    5. What can I do to protect myself and others against infection?
The best thing you can do to protect yourself and others is know the facts and follow good hygiene practices.
Good hand hygiene can help to reduce transmission of all viruses, including the human swine influenza. Therefore when you cough or sneeze it is especially important at this time to follow these general infection control practices:
    • Carry tissues with you at all times.
    • Use clean tissues to cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue available cough / sneeze in to the crook of your arm (the inside of your elbow).
    • Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully – bag and bin them.
    • Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand gel, to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face, on to surfaces and to other people.
    • Ensure hard surfaces (for example your desktop, computer mouse, telephone, door handles and kitchen worktops) are cleaned frequently using a normal cleaning product. You can help us to help the cleaners in this by keeping to a strict Clear Desk Policy at this time.
    • Make sure your children follow this advice and ask them to wash their hands more carefully especially after they have been in public places (on buses, at school, in shops).
Remember – clean hands are the best defence against the spread of infection.

    6. How can I protect myself from getting swine influenza from an infected person?
To protect yourself, follow general preventive guideline measures for influenza:
    • Avoid close contact with people who appear unwell and who have a fever and / or cough.
    • Wash your hands with soap and water frequently and thoroughly.
    • Practice good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active.
If there is an ill person at home:
    • Try to provide the ill person a separate section in the house. If this is not possible, keep at least 1 metre in distance away from them.
    • Cover your mouth and nose when caring for the ill person.
    • Wash your hands with soap and water thoroughly after each contact with the ill person.
    • Keep the environment clean with readily available household cleaning agents.

    7. What are the symptoms of swine influenza?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to those of seasonal flu; usually a feverish illness accompanied by a cough, sore throat, headache or muscular aches. Other symptoms may include: tiredness, chills, sneezing, runny nose and lack of appetite. Some people with swine flu have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea.

    8. What should I do if I think I have swine influenza?
If you feel unwell, have high fever, a cough and / or sore throat:
    • Stay at home (self-isolate) and keep away from work. Notify your Line Manager immediately.
    • Keep warm, rest and take plenty of fluids.
    • Cover your mouth and nose with disposable tissues when coughing and sneezing and dispose of the used tissues properly.
    • Wash your hands with soap and water frequently and thoroughly, especially after coughing or sneezing.
    • Inform family and friends about your illness and seek help for household chores that require contact with other people such as shopping.
    • Do not return to work until fully recovered.
If you feel you need medical attention:
To minimise the risk of spreading the disease to others please do not go to your GP surgery. Instead, stay at home and call your GP, or call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for advice and an initial assessment of your symptoms in England and Wales, or NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24 in Scotland. Explain why you think you have swine influenza (for example, if you have recently travelled to a country where there is a swine influenza outbreak in humans). Follow the advice given to you. Further information is also available on the UK Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513.

    9. What should I do if a member of my team is suspected of or is confirmed as having swine flu?
Line Managers should inform their HR Manager of any suspected cases. The Line Manager or HR should report the case to Occupational Health

    10. What should I do if I have recently returned from a country infected by swine influenza?
If you have recently visited one of the countries or areas where human cases of swine influenza have been identified, it is important that you monitor your health closely for any signs of illness for seven days after your visit to the affected area. There is no need for you to isolate yourself from other people as long as you remain well.

If during this period you develop a feverish illness accompanied by one or more of cough, sore throat, headache and muscle aches, you should contact your GP by phone. Make sure that you tell those from whom you are seeking advice about your recent travel to an area affected. Depending on your symptoms you may be advised that further investigations may be necessary.
If further investigations are felt to be needed you will be advised on appropriate arrangements for you to be tested. This may include admission to hospital. For most cases however, you should be well enough to remain at home. It is important you avoid contact with other people as much as possible until you receive the results of your tests. Your household contacts should also monitor their health and follow the above advice if they get symptoms.

    11. If someone has been to an affected area and is feeling sick what should they do?
Anyone who has recently returned from travel in an affected area and is experiencing influenza-like illness should stay at home and limit contact with others, and seek medical advice from their GP or by contacting NHS Direct on 0845 4647 in England and Wales or NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24 in Scotland. Employees must also inform their Line Manager immediately.
In turn Line Managers should notify their HR Manager and local Occupational Health Advisor.

I've managed to put a load of washing on, so I guess I should get dressed and walk to the shop to get the yogurt I didn't manage to get yesterday so that at least I have breakfast for next week! And I definitely need some exercise today...
