Hi
I'm looking into getting an isofix car seat as my new car will be able to have one fitted. Has anyone got any advice as to which ones are the best, and the cheapest place to buy them - they seem very pricey at £200 +
Thanks0 -
They are pricey because they are the safest on the market. Id recommened Britax but the Maxi Cosy ones are popular.
They are worth the money as our babies safety has no price on it imho!Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
We had one of the first Isofix car seats when our (now 9 yr old) was little and I would go for one again if we ever had another child. We still have the car seat in the attic as I cannot bring myself to get rid of it even though we are not planning on having any more kids0

Sorry for my ignorance but what is so special about isofix seats?
We just bought a new car, Seat Altea, and it has isofix labels on the seats but i didnt realise there was anything important about them!!0 -
Isofix seats fix onto brackets that are built into the car. So you arent relying on the cars seat belts to hold the childs / baby seat in position. Much more secure, much more safer therefore much more expensive.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110

Not only is is safer because of being secured to the car, apparently it is also easier to fit - and there is no wear on the seatbelt.0

erm.....so do i have to do anything to them?
i take it you mean the actual seat in the car is fixed onto brackets but i'm not sure how that benefits me putting a child seat onto the seat.
is it still not held in place by the seat belt?
my wife and i have a 12 week old baby (our 1st) and if there is anyhting we are doing wrong, or anyhting we could be doing better to add safety i would love to know.0 -

We're expecting our first baby in 5 weeks and took delivery of our car seat this morning. It's the Maxi Cosi Cabrio and we opted to get the isofix base to go with it. If you look in your car, you will see wee isofix anchor points (assuming you car has them lol!). The maxi cosi base clicks into the anchor points and has a red/green light system to tell you that you fitted it correctly/incorrectly. The car seat then clicks straight onto the base, again, this has a red/green light system too. There is no need to secure the seat using the car's seat belt. I chose this seat as I didn't want to be fiddling with teh selt belt and tensioning etc every time I got in and out of the car and also because the light system makes it pretty much foolproof.
Hope that makes sense!I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0 -

No i mean the Isofix baby seat is fixed onto brackets built into the actual car. So there is no need for the seat belt to be used. The Isofix brackets are located in the join when the back seat part joins the bottom seat part so you fix the Isofix seat or base to them and thats it secure.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110
