Agree with the highlighted comment, however sometimes there is no other alternative. My baby was diagnosed with reflux at an early age, we had to change her milk to SMA Staydown which is specially formulated for babies with significant reflux, however on christmas day she completely refused point blank any bottles, although she wolfed down all solids. I tried her on the SMA progress milk as recommended by a health visitor who basically said that I could offer cows milk as her reflux was clearing itself but did not contain all of the vitamins etc in it so suggested I tried something like the follow on milk as she also refused the other *proper baby milk*.

The exception though. Not the rule.

guidelines clearly have changed from u weaned ur 5. They now know that the gut (or something like that, im not a health professional so dont remember) stays open until almost 6 months which can lead to future food intolerances if solids are introduced too early. But hey because somebody once said it was ok to wean from a month old we should keep doing it right :j

.... or should we perhaps realise that like the fact they used to drill holes in peoples head for headaches, its better to go with the most up to date guidelines. I know i'd rather take a paracetamol than do what drs used to for sore heads.
All to do with the gut eh?

Makes you wonder why the majority of Asia, Africa and S.Americas children all manage quite well with food from a few weeks old....you know, if its to do with the gut. Or perhaps they are different types of gut??

Food Intolerances? 5 grown up kids. None with mine. Grandchildren Nope....none there either.....me and my sibblings....hell, lets take it to my generation of folk.....funny, none of us seem to 'suffer' from all those food intolerances and allergies that kids these days seem to have.

Maybe we all have stronger guts????

Does it work? If so, how (Gaviscon in it?) And how long has it been around?

Eldest had it badly (she's 8 now) and we had to try to get a spoonful of Infant Gaviscon into her before (breast)feeding. Nightmare. We had new carpets and I tried not to take it personally that I worked hard to produce milk for her (as in got tired) and she then threw most of it up all over our new carpets! Aaarggghhh.

The projectile vomitted carrot puree wasn't funny either. :D

Sma Staydown would most definitely have been tried. Although I was quite adamant at the time that the kids were being solely breastfed. Bloody pressure. Can see sense now. ;)

Absolute godsend!!! Was given gaviscon infant on prescription first and did nothing, she needed it thick before hitting the stomach not thickening up in the stomach. My carpets got wrecked in my old house something you can never quite shift!

I only realised that there was something wrong when I started weaning her and suddenly when she had rusk before a bottle she wasn't sick on that bottle obviously cause it was thick before hitting the stomach. Did research ourselves went out bought a tin, tried it and the only complaint I have is that it is hard to mix, cannot be shook like you would shake normal babys milk to mix it has to be rolled between the hands  I took matters into my own hands and used a hand blender ... I wasn't shaking it ... just rolling it side to side a tad faster ;)

I tried to breastfeed with my son but couldn't physically breastfeed :( Didn't put myself through the mental torture with my daughter, hindsight I am now quite glad as breastfeeding and gaviscon would have driven me mad!!!

hi all, little one was 5 months yesterday.

well he has a breakfast thing, unsure what it is but i think its heinz baby breakfast where you mix it with milk. Loves to be fed this at breakfast time followed by milk, from there we go with a bottle for dinner then for tea time he can have another meal, these come in jars then followed by some more milk.

He has been eating solids for about 2-3weeks, which we found he would quite happily do, he spends most of the day in the walker we bought him about 2 months ago.

I can show you pictures of him in the walker with a pillow under his feet, he likes to stand up,but now he is taller he can walk around the front room on the laminate flooring, nor right but he is going to be a walker before a crawler.

As too chocolate, well the way we managed to get him onto foods was the random tesco chocolate mouse, or cheap yoghart. Not alot but he was happy to eat it.

Health visitor said not too feed him solids for as long as possible, well you tell this little baby he cant have his food in the morning.

As for a treat, gets a little bit of white easter egg chocolate in his walker tray, and funny enough picks it up too eat it.

Wife says that he was 2 teeth coming though, hence the recent crying.

Pictures to come when im not away with work, but ill ask her to post up.

    you are having a laugh?!

This has got to be a wind up...

I just don't know why you would do that to your baby. Hungry babies need more milk. Nothing is higher in calories than breast or formula milk. All that 'mother knows best' crap - tell that to my friend who was weaned at 6 weeks and now suffers from coeliac disease. She certainly doesn't think her mother knew best.

But, whatever. Your child. His health. Not my problem.
In all fairness the coelic disease could have absolutely nothing to do with early weaning, your friend could have been weaned when they were 6 months old and they could still have coelic disease. It's actually quite common, it's thought that 1 in 300 people in UK, US and Europe have it, are you saying that all of those were weaned early?

i was advised that a baby should be changed to a forward facing carseat only when they are the atleast the minimum weight and can hold their head sitting up for 30mins?
as others have said its not about their feet its the head you have to watch.
i was told it doesnt bear thinking about what would happen with these children who are far too young and with no head control in forward facing carseats if they had an accident.
personnaly i wouldnt change him over yet.

not a fan of baby walkers either but thats for a new thread think this ones gone off track enough
