well i read the whole of this thread yesterday and finished at about midnight. my jaw was on the floor the whole time, i do hope that when you talked about them giving you 30k WW, you meant IN ADDITION to the costs, deposit and fees? but in anycase, i hope things turn out well for you in your new home, their behaviour is outrageous and what goes around, comes around, so they will get theirs in the end.

I can't help but hope that WW moves into her new home BEFORE the vendors-ooops-no-we're-not-really-vendors remarket their property. And walks her dog past their place frequently. Wouldn't it be unfortunate if she were to bump into would-be-buyers?

  • If the Bank of Mum & Dad helped them out, why didn't they just give them the money to buy the new build they were after? It would have been a lot cheaper than paying solicitors etc... for non completion

It makes no sense:confused: going down this route.

  • I don't think sense came into this and they just stuck their heads in the sand hoping it would go away, until the heat got too hot and had to find a way out ...at cost!
i would hope their Estate Agent will be also demanding their commision as they had done what was required in the contract. Secondly if they do remarket, which I doubt as you would hope they are paying back their parents. The original agent will not touch them with a barge pole, and if they don't get their commision, nor will the others as word does get round between agents.

Wow, well done, I'm so pleased the vendors got their comeuppance AND you ended up coming out of it with a better house anyway! :j

I'm so intrigued by the vendors minds though! It seems bizarre to be so desperate to stay in a house you'll pay £30k damages to do so. I would have thought the house would feel kind of tainted by the stress and trauma they've put themselves through. If I was them, I'd be feeling kind of like the whole village was talking about me behind my back and I wouldn't feel comfortable there anymore. Although I suppose if they have always been the type who tantrummed until mummy and daddy gave them their own way, maybe they'll just let the parents bail them out and never think about it again - and probably never pay the £30k back to mummy and daddy.
  • Yay! Congratulations WW!

I'm another lurker who was praying things would work out for you.

Please do post a RM link if they remarket the property and let us know when you complete on your new home.

    Already cleared :D:D
Well done and now you can finally relax.

I'm surprised the media are not more interested as can imagine they would like to put their doom & gloom spin on things. I imagine you would be the evil witch and they would be the innocent couple and "only wanted a home for their family" and "can't understand why you would do this to them" !!!

    Well another update....

Today our solicitors exchanged and completed on the new property! We were able to push it all through on the same day as the property is vacant and we're not selling either so no reason for a delay between the two.

So now the fun begins....we're not moving in for a few months as it needs rewiring, some roof repairs, some central heating upgrades, new kitchen/bathroom, windows/doors etc etc.

The previous vendors haven't put their property back up on the market yet...lord knows what their game plan is now. I'm guessing mummy and daddy bailed them out in the long run, although I have heard that one of the nice new cars has been replaced by a second hand run-around so perhaps they've had to 'downsize' a little!
