CPW/TT to offer FREE broadband (merged)

s usual the headline figures don't tell the whole truth. In addition to the 18 month contract there is a £30 joining fee and it will cost £60 to exit. The Guardian Money pages last Saturday recommended waiting until August or so to see the response of the other BB suppliers. The assumption is that competition will drive down their prices.0

Sounds a good deal to me - but two drawbacks (when you try and sign up) a) it's a minimum 18 month contract (not a big problem if you get the full deal) but b) you can't get the full deal in all postcodes - my own postcode DOESN'T qualify - "Unfortunately, because BT still controls your telephone exchange and we have to connect you through their equipment, we can't offer you broadband for free at this time. However, we can offer you high-speed broadband at the great price of just £10 per month, when you sign up to our Talk3 international calling plan."0

Even for people in their catchment, the reasoning that one product is free because the other one is overpriced seems a bit tenuous; maybe it should make people think that some competing products will be likely to arrive pretty soon0 -
Can i still use my BT Wireless Voyager Modem if I sign up this deal ?
Or would i have to change ?0 -
I have just received an e mail form onetel. They inform me as Talk talk has taken over onetel I can transfer to Talk talk without penalty. I will let you know what happens when I call them tomorrow.0

Voyager 240 is set up for 8 mb so should be ok. If you go onto the BT web site you can check the speed you can get form your exchange, and which modems are ok.

When i did it came back with 6mb0 -

Just to say that of course Im looking into this. At the moment I have confirmed that override numbers can be dialled through the service, but not yet confirmed that it will charge them at BT prices. It's going to be about 8 to 10 days before i can produce a full article including the new tariff - once all the info comes in

I've read every post in this thread and I'm still non the wiser.
Will wait for your advice before making a decision.
Am already with Talk Talk for calls (BT line rental) and am happy with them.:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -

Does this mean i can acctually use the same modem, but just change to the talk talk settings ?0 -
from what i undersatand about adsl modems you should have a voyager home page. You need to put in your user name and password as you did when you set it up. The voyager home page is actually on the modem and not the web even thought it looks like a web page. If you have a voyager modem type in
http://voyager.home
then your user name and password as provided by your ip.0 -

I'm with Onetel also but haven't heard anything from them.
Had you enquired with Onetel re the TT deal before you got the e-mail from them or did they e-mail you out of the blue ?
I'm paying £29.99 per month for broadband and anytime landline calls.
Will the equivalent TT deal be a better price............Does anyone know ?
Thanks,
