What favours are you having, and how much were they?

Kids party I understand, but the bit I struggle with is seeing as I am paying out around £80 per head, which includes a free round of golf for the boys, a 4 course dinner and enough booze to satisfy a Glaswegian with a thirst.
And guests still expect a gift?
i dont think people expect a gift
i just think its nice....but if I hadnt have found the vw tea lights I would be keeping it simple and making a pretty bag/box with some sweets or chocs in it, which can be done really really cheaply if needed
I think its a personal choice.....I want to do favours so Im doing them
If you dont want to, then don't, honestly Im sure your guests won't even notice
Married on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -

- a mini bar of chocolate with our pics on it (we photocopied a lovely pic of us pulling faces, cut to size and used it as a wrapper.) 20p each ish?
- a little card with a funny wedding custom/wedding triv on it (I have these ready to print if anyone wants a copy, they're great!)
- a miniture perfume for the ladies, (Ghost, Anais Anais etc) from sale at Boots at Christmas, about 80p each?
- and a metal puzzle for the men (from Ebay), about 20p each with the words 'love is like a puzzle….when two pieces fit together its perfect' attached
Hi your little funny cards sound great, would I be able to get a copy please.

We're making flannel cupcakes! We got the idea from a thread on here & really liked it, we got muffin cases in a basket weave design from eBay which were £3something for 100, we've been buying the face cloths when we go shopping - Morrisons do nice ones for 89p for 4! We also got mini chubbachub lollies to put in the middle & the stick goes into the centre so it looks like a cherry on the top! We need to buy about 20 more face cloths & some cello bags to put them in but think they'll eventually cost about 70p? each to make. Not making them up til next year though coz they'll take up too much space & get dusty!"Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0

I think this is a little unnecessary considering its on a thread specifically about favours.Favours are either cheap chocolate, or tat that's banished to the back of the cupboard I don't want a glass with your name on, a mirror with your wedding date engraved or your sugared almonds. Save your money and put it towards your honeymoon that you'll no doubt be asking your guests to pay for.
Whilst people chose/chose not to have favours is up to the individual and most people put quite a bit of thought into what they give.
And for the record we aren't having a gift list or asking for money we are off on a sun £9.50 jolls for ours!0 -
I don't know if this has already been mentioned but you could make your own favour bags. You can buy cheap fabric from the market for a couple of pounds max and cut it into rectangles and then sew round 3 edges. Fill with the favour of your choice and tie with a little ribbon! Simple and affordable

My first post so please be kind!
I run an online favour business so wanted to add my comments to this thread and it may seem strange when you consider what I do for a living. Favours are a personal choice - nobody has to give them, they're not essential to any wedding which is about far more than one day anyway! Stick to what your budget is telling you and if there's no spare cash it's one thing you don't need.
Don't forget though favours can be cherished by your guests for many years to come. For instance, my mother still cherishes the bomboniere she was given at a niece's wedding many years ago and those given at my daughters wedding last year.
Never buy readymade favours as these are expensive - make them yourself. For instance: instead of buying flower seeds buy some seeded paper and a shaped paper stamp - stamp out shapes and place 2 or 3 in an organza bag, add planting instructions and a tag and you have a placecard and favour combined.
Really cheap favours include the traditional organza bags and chocolate hearts - buy them on Ebay but always request a sample as some chocs are terrible (I've tried most of them in the interest of market research) - and make them up yourself.0 -
Welcome cmp - we're all quite nice on here really....

No, you're totally fine. Favours are either cheap chocolate, or tat that's banished to the back of the cupboard (apart from those VW tealights which are the only good favour I have ever seen) I don't want a glass with your name on, a mirror with your wedding date engraved or your sugared almonds. Save your money and put it towards your honeymoon that you'll no doubt be asking your guests to pay for.
And before you think I'm wedding bashing, I'm not. I love a good wedding. I just won't be handing out chintz at mine, my guests will be fed, watered and entertained, and I don't even expect anything in return apart from them.
ooooh, I think you gotta be a little bit careful with your wild assumptions here Lydia...if a couple are asking for money towards their honeymoon fund, then why not? Its entirely up to them?
Also, I personally think giving favours at a wedding is a lovely thoughtful thing. Everyone has their own personal taste - just think you should have a little more respect for other peoples opinions, and be less judgemental.Women marry men hoping they will change, men marry women hoping they won't! Nice way to insult nearly every poster on a thread. Glad I never had someone as unappreciative as you at my wedding.
My 'tat' was loved for the mementoes they are - and there wasn't a single favour left behind on the tables afterwards.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
