Diary of a broken gambler

Glad to hear things are going ok.
The accommodation front is worrying I know as February will come around sooner rather than later.
Does Gumtree cover your area ? I found somewhere through that (watch out for scammers through - african kind usually) but it meant I could bypass agencies and all their rules and references.
Hope things continue well.0 -
Amiga,
I have SO much respect for you coming on here, spilling it all out, and 'sorting' yourself out.
I was engaged to a gambler from my late teens to my mid twenties and my life was made hell with the lies, so, so, many lies... He also left me with over £20,000 of debt that I had taken out in my name as he 'promised' I'd get the money back... I have just gone BR because 7 years on I am suffering from severe anxiety and have no hope of paying off the debt.
My point isn't to make you feel bad through my bad experience but to give you a massive pat on the back and say 'WOW YOUR ALL MAN!!!' My ex is still out there spending, gambling and running from his debt and his new girlfriend has NO idea how much debt he has (when I left him it was nearing £40,000 NOT including my £20,000) and he has told all his family and friends that I am the liar, cheater, general nasty person so they would never believe me if I tried to tell them otherwise... I view him as a tiny little maggot and crawl at the thought I wasted so long on him, and why? Because he hasn't fronted up and come out and said 'hell yeah, I'm a gambler!!!' and done something about it... He's off ruining a chunk of some other poor girls life now...
ALL MAN AMIGA GOOD ON YA MY SON!!!!!
All up from here my lovely

No bus tickets are still really expensive too sadly
Thanks Property, Gumtree doesn't cover my area, already checked there. Will check the local papers
Thanks Mary, Sorry to hear about your ex. Hardest part is admitting you are in trouble with gambling. The enjoyment for me went months before I stopped. It becomes a horrible slide to try and win back the small amount you first lost. In the end it costs thousands as you have found out
Hopefully he gets the help he needs before this poor girl gets in a mess like you did0 -
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has heard from Amiga lately and to wish him and everyone else a Happy Christmas and good luck for the New Year.

Hello all,
Just wanted to update as I have now been Bankrupt for 6 months. I am still working at the same place ( not been told I am perm staff yet, but also not been told not to come in yet either!)
Until today had no further contact with the OR. Today they left a message on my phone for me to call them back. I am not allowed to have my mobile in work so missed it until tonight, so I am now worried what is going to happen!
Apart from this I am fine, Bankruptcy is always in the back of my mind, but I have got a little routine sorted out.
Anyway, hope all of you are well, and noone minds me bringing this to the frontpage again!0 -
Hi Amiga, hope you are doing well, i wouldnt worry about the call, just give them a ring back tomorrowHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
Thanks Debtinfo and Trolley!
I agree Trolley, the support from folk here was amazing when I went BR. I do feel guilty for not sticking around, and I did lurk on the forums now and again, but the word Bankruptcy just made me feel a little uneasy!
It was the best thing I could ever have done, and the only way for me to move on with things. I still feel guilt of course, but it was the best thing for me0 -
nice to hear from you amiga,i still come back from time to time to see whats going on.life will get better im sure you have come so far penny x0
