  • Murtle, if your books aren't good sellers have you looked at www.readitswapit.co.uk to see if you can swap your books for better selling ones? A great many of us swapped our 1p books for better sellers earlier this year

The book that was £70 was by Betty Shine and some of the "psychic" "self help" and sci fi and fantasy books seem to do very well.

I find that books I expect to do well are about 1p to 40 pence and books that seem a bit "odd" can do very well price wise.

I'm almost certain that it is indeed 7 days, I'm doing something at the moment but will look into this for you & post a link if I can.

The guy didn't want a return and full refund he "reluctantly" had to keep it for a course and its apparently hard to get hold of so accepted a £5.00 refund instead. Not bad off a £7.25 book! Never mind at least I covered the postage costs. Will know better next time if someone complains after 7 weeks

Becky I have been commiserating with you on this one, but life has been so hectic I have not had time to post!

I have a really wierd sale to relate, so hope you are all sitting comfortably.

Just over a month ago, I purchased a biography from a market stall. There was only one other on there priced at 34.95 so I put mine on at a bit less. Both of these books were ex-library and marked as such, and apart from being ex-library, the book was in really good condition and apparently rare!!

Imagine my delight then when it sold, for a good profit, and not only that its good to see an specialist book find an owner. I was v. pleased and thought no more of it.

Fast forward a month later, I woke yesterday to an email from the buyer, saying that he had only just had time to thoroughly inspect the book and it appeared to be a library book and he was deeply concerned that the book may in fact have been stolen from from Berkshire library!!!!!!!!! That surely I too would share his concern and did I have any proof that I had acquired the book by honest means! My mind was well and truly boggled naturally - none of this had ever crossed my mind and I was shocked and a little upset.

Well I replied that he could have my word that I had purchased the book from the market some time ago, that it was a very old book, that I had listed it as ex library, and that many ex library books are sold on Amazon, it was commonplace for libraries to sell off old books. However, if he was that concerned he should contact the library as I was unable to say whether the book had in the past been stolen!!! I said I hoped I had put his mind at rest.

Waits a month, then at 11.45 Tuesday night sends me this email, and now I have had no response to my explanatory email! How mad is this????

Just hope he does not send the book police round!

You would think he would acknowledge the email. Wonder if he will wait longer and then ask for a refund?? I am catastrophizing I know, but I'm also thinking what if he reports me to Amazon for selling stolen books???? It seems so surreal :D

By the way Hi AT:hello: :)

PS. How long can a buyer have a book and then ask for a refund?????

PPS. Have just seen Yvonne's post - thanks Yvonne :)

Hi Larmy, I'm always amazed by the bizarre things buyers come up with, I bought quite a few books yesterday from my local library - they had some Mills & Boons which I got for 10p each. [Someone mentioned earlier on the thread - soz can't remember who :embarasse that they sell quite well] Anyway the point of this rambling is that they are all stamped 'withdrawn' on several pages so I assume all libraries do this?

Of course I suppose we could all go round stealing library books and then get a 'withdrawn' stamp made...........................

Hope you don't get any visits from the B Police :rolleyes2
    Good luck

With the exception of the University library books which have a sold stamp inside, none of my ex-library books have been stamped!

Most of mine are stamped. I've had some with an empty borrowing record (that thing they stamp the due back date on) but they've still had to stamp them and mark them and things

Becky I did not even know it would have a withdrawn stamp - so you live and learn - this book was quite old. It seems whenever I have a good sale, by that I mean over £15, its a strange wierd person who has bought it! So from now on I shall be more content with my "mini" sales.:)
