comicmankev wrote:Do you guys sell any books for 0.01p? Just wondered, cos everything I'd get rid of seems to be listed as that! Of course, you receive £1.40 ish, so if you can post it cheap you may still get a few quid in your pocket if you sell a few. But whats the deal?
It all depends on what you'd do with the 1p books if you didn't Amazon them - if you can make 40 or 50 pence on Amazon then that's probably more than you'd get at a boot sale and certainly more than if you gave them away. I understand that they rotate the pages so that every book gets a turn at being on the first page that the buyer sees.
It's worth considering ebay though, with ebay you could group a few together which you can't do on Amazon0 -

£70 !
Guess who is going to the charity shop tomorrow!
Once you have it would you mind telling us what it is? I wandered round the charity shops the other day but bought nothing. There was so many books and I had no idea what to choose. I saw some very new looking computing books but I didn't know if they were for the latest editions of the programmes.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -

Start carrying a small notebook around with you and when you see books copy down the isbn numbers. Then you can check when you get home and if possible go back for any likely books. AFter a while you can start to get a bit of a feel for books, although that doesn't stop me with my little notebook...
Also check out the other thread on here about books that have sold well on Amazon. It is possible to see a sort of pattern that helps especially when knowing what to avoid.

In 7 weeks he's had time to read it and remove the page if you ask me but felt I had to refund as I don't want negative feedback. You couldn't take a book back to a shop after 7 weeks though!
I'm almost certain that it is indeed 7 days, I'm doing something at the moment but will look into this for you & post a link if I can.2023 wins - Rice Krispies, Avene Micellar Gel, Barbie Toy, £20 Apple Gift Card, KFC 6 piece bargain bucket, Chloe Nomade perfume, Barbie Toy (second one), Sanctuary Spa Sleep Balm, E45 Moisturising Lotion, Trolls Hamper, 12 Tonie Characters, Sure deodorant, Good Home Utensil holder, £5 Costa Gift Card, Neutrogena Micellar Jelly, Soap & Glory Mascara, Persil capsules,0 -

Thanks for that, that is exactly what I though, but just wanted to check! I've just sold my first 1p book today, so will see how it goes. And for the record, these are books that have been gathering dust, and yes, 50p is way better than a boot sale (which I think these books have travelled back and forth to a few times now!
Another question, I've been checking the charity shops (as I always have done cos I love books!) and noticed a few at around £3, that are listed on Amazon for £14. How do you guys do it, do you list these on Amazon, if they sell go back to the CS and pick it up, or do ou buy it 1st? Just wondered cos the prices on Amazon don't actually mean that someone will pay that do they?
Thanks, and I'm begining to really enjoy this!0 -
If only we could list a book that you haven't actually paid for! gosh I'd be rich by now I'm certain of it - no -sadly you can't do that way around.
At this tiime of year boot sales are the cheapest places to go looking for books, we have a thread about books etc that have sold for over £10 in the past so you can have a look at that and print it off and scour your boot sales for them but probably on a more practical line - look at the list and you'll get a feel for the kind of types of books (and other stuff) that find buyers.
And yes - you are spot on with the fact that just because a bok is listed on amazon for £14 it doesn't mean that either it will sell at £14, the seller could lower the price many times before it sells or it may sell for £14 but not this year or maybe even next year, you have to take the long view with some books.
On the other hand some books are so topical that they will always sell and the key doing this is the price you pay and the condition it's in, for example I have sold 3 identical copies of Carol Vordermans Detox diet book and 3 copies of You Are What You eat this year, all were in condition that I could confidently describe as 'very good' and cost me pennies each, one was 20p! (there are some very short-sighted sellers around) and although there are lots of these books listed for sale because I paid peanuts for them I could match the lowest price and say that I'd dispatch the same day so they all sold within 7 -14 days.0 -
Thanks for the info. our CS is a very small one and the books seem to stay on the shelves for EVER! So I figured I could list them on Amazon without purchase - lol - If I did return and it was not there any longer I could always refund same day? Would that effect feedback, or do they not get to leave it then?
Many thanks for all the advice anyway, I'm just throowing ideas out there, I've not actually 'buy to sell' yet!0 -

Some buyers will leave you neg feedback if you don't deliver the book as they have no fear of retaliatory feedback from the seller as they do on ebay. Once you start getting any real negatives your sales will dry up, so I wouldn't chance it.
