I'm on the phone to Barclays trying to close down three dormant accounts.......
For such a simple process, I seem to have been "put on hold for one moment" rather a lot :rolleyes:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
you know i had the same issues hypno ...even american express were a nightmare they still havnt closed the account but did send me a letter saying they will charge me £20 a year if i dont use the account ...aye right then ...closing 4 accounts with the one bank was a total night mare i had to write letters send emails and phone people (lasted over 20 mins) ...am going to have to get back in touch with amex again and have another couple to close0

And I missed the chocolates
Never mind, sniffing chocolate rather than eating it is better for you ...
and Taka... you made a nosestud? I'm impressed, I'm deffo impressed.
I make silver jewellery (though I haven't made much for ages) - pendants and neclaces mostly but earrings, rings, bracelets and occasionally nosestuds too.I also have a bit of an addiction to pretty gemstones (tourmalines, amethysts and garnets especially ) so I love combining the 2! I've also made a (raised, beaten) silver bowl before but I got a bit carried away with the hammer and it got a wee stress fracture.
:rotfl: Oooops!
Hypno, I wonder if there's anything to Hiphouse's idea? .... I wonder if the credit check thingies don't take account initially of ability to borrow, they count up the number of accounts first? Taka, you've got almost the same number as Hypno, is that a problem for you, do you know? Its just interesting, we *know* they're basing refusal of new b.t. cards, for instance, on *something*, and since its nothing logical, it must be something crazy. Just wondering out loud.....
I don't think loads of savings accounts will be the problem - only credit cards, mortgages, loans and accounts with an overdraft show up on a credit report. Savings accounts aren't listed at all unless they did an ID check (and that doesn't count at all for credit scores etc).
Loads of credit cards/loans/ODs would be a problem... maybe they don't like that hypno (presumably) has several closed accounts still showing?
Good luck anyone with kids waiting for results. In Scotland we had ours posted out so you spent the morning on Postie watch, waiting for him/her to appear with a massive brown envelope! It was torture if your friends got them earlier than you... I always opened mine in the bathroom as it was the only place I could get space to open it/them without my parents peering over my shoulder. :rotfl: Going into school wasn't an option as the schools were still closed for the holidays... Not sure how they are delivered now?Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Good luck to everybody expecting Exam results.
Happy Birthday to Shauns littlie x
Hypno the explanation given to me by two firms that refused me was the amount of unused credit still availabe and debt to income so I think these are the major things.I have no reason to doubt these two firms as they were decent enough to give me an explanation.I've also never ever had a bank charge, been late or missed a payment ever...they are all a law unto themselves anyway.0 -
Our schools are closed but open for the day for results -and so the kids have access to teachers to write references/give advice if results weren't as expected and they need to go into clearing.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Barclays *say* the accounts will be closed within 72 hours.........we shall see
Taxi, I think you are right - after all, no matter how much I tell myself we have reduced the debt a lot, we DO still have a lot of it, and our combined income is only just above average.
So, we have an above average debt, to an average income, between us, so that is bound to be noticed.
I suppose it is only to us that it seems "reasonable" given the huge amount that it was previously.....to anyone looking at our credit file, they would possibly still think it was "rather a lot of debt".
Ah well, it is getting paid off steadily, so it won't be so much of an issue soon.
2 Mystery shops at lunchtime - one providing me with free coffee, one giving me £5 of supermarket shopping, and both paying me for the privilage.....
I've also been number crunching (again).....all this talk of bank accounts etc has given me the urge to try and streamline a bit :rolleyes::rolleyes:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
