Hypno's approach to life, the universe and debtbusting.....

I think I will pay off Egg first - psychologically being able to get rid of them will be fab, plus the total minimum payments for debt will be just £525 per month, which is the lowest they have been since we got into this pickle. That on its own means that we have a chance to balance the books a bit easier, and also takes pressure off should second job work etc dry up.
Then, rightly or wrongly, I am going to pay off the virgin 0% card - partly because it allows me to overpay the odd £5 or so as and when, which always gives me a boost, but also because if I clear that, it would be easier to get the rest of the capital together for the barclayloan and I can balance transfer some to virgin and pay the difference, and maybe at that time could even get (she says optomistically) a low LOB or another 0% card to do the whole lot.
Once the unsecured debt is gone, I have to save up and pay off the secured loan which is about £11000.
However, that is at a low rate as it is linked to my mortgage. I can't overpay it, but I CAN overpay my mortgage, so rather than save up (and risk spending in the meantime) to get rid of the secured loan, I am probably going to overpay the mortgage each month instead. The end result will be the same - ie we owe less on the house than we did at the start, and as we are looking to move eventually, it really doesn't matter whether we have secured loan/mortgage because the overall balance and APR is the same.
Of course, if I get a decent bonus next summer, I can throw it all at the secured loan and try and get it paid off in one lump. If I can do that as well as overpaying the mortgage I will be very happy.
Easy - all I need to do now is find £26000 :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Honestly, you lot, if you saw the state of my house and garden, you would think I was mad just to even consider living in such a health hazard of an environment
I have to get this house sorted - as an investment - ie to get the best sale price we can when we do come to sell it.......as a home, because we have to live here in the meantime.....and as a necessary part of my emotional and mental wellbeing.
Apart from being cluttered and overgrown, everywhere is looking tired and dated. Rather like its owner!
And of course it is not going to do itself.......:rolleyes:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
