I side stepped the Debit Card fee on EasyJet.Com by merely selecting "VISA Electron" in the payment option, and inputting my VISA Delta card details. Result - no payment charge.

Apologies if this trick is already known!

I have a ££s Entropay card and here is the statement line for an £8 flight I booked with Ryanair, from the UK in the usual manner. Not used the account since but it was changed to 9.36 Euros for me. So possibly worth adding a bit extra to your Entropay balance just in case!!

That's odd Pompey, here's a couple of Entropay entries for my Ryanair tickets. The invoiced price is exactly the same as the ticket price. I think the euro price is just mentioned for information. I wonder how Ryanair sneeked on the extra 8%? If my 1p ticket had an 8% surcharge, it would have ruined my whole trip.

    Moaners
If you don't like it, just use another Airline.
As a 'moaner', I disagree. I don't think consumers should keep quite, but act aggressively against any supplier smuggling extra costs onto advertised prices . . . If Germany can demand their suppliers give consumers a clear and level playing field, why can't we?
Don't wish to perpetuate 'off-topic' but I feel it is important to support geoff_soper wholeheartedly.

I believe we in UK get the shoddy services/prices/goods that we get BECAUSE of the very attitude of this snobbish British trait of looking down on anyone complaining, or dismissing them as 'moaners'

Dammit, this is a consumer forum.
Surely in the year 2009 even the Brit numbskulls should realise that the only way we will make progress is by giving fellow consumers support when they have cause for complaint. Your complaint today improves the standards for us all tomorrow.

Our European counterparts DEMAND the standards that they get, and complain like hell if they don't get them. Traders who can't deliver to consumers expectations simply find themselves going out of business.

In UK we only get the shoddy standards we get because of our inaction.

    WAKE UP BRITAIN.
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.

Would you be covered if the airline went into administration. With a normal credit card you would be covered!!

This Polish person is looking down at people who complain about Ryanair too.

Your complaint today will raise the prices for everyone tomorrow, that much is certain. Ryanair unashamedly punishes those that can't take ten minutes to read a simple website - and allows savvy individuals like myself to travel for a very good price.

Hmm, have you travelled on Alitalia, LOT or SAS lately? Or for that matter, have you travelled on Seafrance recently?

Those that complain about Ryanair's pricing are the ones who want a return to the bad old days of 200 pounds plus fares from London to Dublin. The rest of us are quite happy to deal with Ryanair's transparent pricing system over an airline like BA or Aer Lingus who will add on 'fuel surcharges' and collude with others to exploit the consumer.

If you want 'fair' pricing - then travel BA or Air France. But don't come crying when you receive exactly the same standard of 'service' as Ryanair, with a flight that was late, for three/four times the price.

I can't help but think that people have huge problems differentiating between Ryanair's policies and those applied by the banks.

No need for anyone to look down on any user of MSE. This thread is about how to pay for Easy Jet/Ryan Air flights not the price or quality of either airline.

You would not be covered under Article 75. But this only covers flights costing at least £100 anyway. With a VISA electron card issued by a bank you could reclaim your money under the VISA chargeback scheme if the airline folded. Not sure what the position is with prepaid cards.

I too asked Barclays in June for an Electron card knowing about these charges and they were no help at all.

They told me the 'connect' card is the same as an 'electron' poor poor service.

This Travelex card looks great many thanks MSE's!!

Same here! I rang Barclays to renew my Electron card and they asked me (over the phone) to cut up my old one and promised to send me a new one. But all they would offer was a Connect card. Most worrying of all, the staff were not able to answer the question I repeatedly put to them "Do you know the difference between a Visa Debit Electron card and a Connect card?"

"No, but a Connect card is much better!" came the pat response from Barclays Bank staff.

After a year of nagging them and lodging complaints (always a waste of time with Barclays, I've found) I got to speak with someone honest AND intelligent - who was willing to tell me Barclays no longer issue Visa Debit Electron cards.

Maybe mine went through a different booking centre or something, no idea but my invoice was for £8, the itinerary states £8 paid but my Entropay account was debited £8.65 as shown in my other post. Not a big deal, still £39.35 cheaper than paying RAs fees, 4X £2 returns, but maybe worth putting an extra couple of quid just in case. Are you sure your 1st flight was £10:90, seems an odd amount ?
