Regret I think so also Pee. But that's my point. Must we all now be forced to demand small print before we consider paying for train tickets, car tyres or order a meal? Surely we now need a law (or a common law ruling) that a single card payment can't incur multiple card handling charges.

I believe courts can declare unfair terms invalid. For instance, I'm confident that B & Q can't count the screws in a multipack & add 100 charges of £5 to 'handle' your card payment. I'd assume a court would rule for a £500 refund, no matter what B&Q's small print says & establish a common law ruling, that 1 payment=1 payment charge?
I very much doubt it. Unfair contract terms are about the retailer exploiting a disparity in power between them and the customer. In this case, Ryanair and B&Q have no excessive power, because we all have the choice to buy flights or screws from someone else.

If the charge is shown clearly when you click to confirm the payment, I think you are stuck with it. With most online ordering you don't find out the postage charge until you order the goods, so I frequently abort a purchase once I find out the full price including postage. The same would apply if some extra charge were added.

I am not saying I approve of these tactics; just that I think it is a bit much to expect them to be illegal.

    thanks for the quick response!
just to clarify though, if i were to transfer the money from an online bank account to this halifax easy cash account would it also be immediate?

Yes, providing the online bank account sends faster payments. Officially faster payments can take up to 2 hours, but when I've moved money to the Halifax from First Direct it's always been available immediately.

I believe you can get Entropay in either Sterling, Euros or Dollars flavours, so I suspect 'Edingburghlas' may have ticked the Euro option by mistake. There's certainly no euro recalculation when I pay with mine.

I have a ££s Entropay card and here is the statement line for an £8 flight I booked with Ryanair, from the UK in the usual manner. Not used the account since but it was changed to 9.36 Euros for me. So possibly worth adding a bit extra to your Entropay balance just in case!!

Alternatively you can sign up to Entropay http://www.entropay.com/

There is a small charge for transferring money into it, 50p per £10 and Ryan Air do change any GBP transactions into Euros so you need to make sure you load enough to cover this.
My last flights for £10 in April went through at £10.87 obviously the amount depends on the rate of exchange at the time.

You need your passport to hand when signing up and when using it with Ryan Air you enter Entropay User as the name then the card and security number you are given as normal.

Ive read through the Entropay site, it seems to say that it is a Visa Debit card, not Delta. Does this not mean that fees would still apply with Ryanair etc?

Not sure about Ryanair etc but Monarch allow payments by Solo card without charge.

I have one with HSBC as an additional current account. I just transfer money from my normal current account to my Solo account. No charge and it happens instantly. I then pay for my tickets with Monarch and save myself a load of dosh.

    Hope this helps.

I have opened Co-op current account and requested Visa Electron card just for that reason. The only snag was that they initially ignored my request for Visa Electron and sent me Visa debit card [because, presumeably, they thought they are doing me favour rewarding me for my good credit rating]. It is free and it is satisfying to know that I shall not give Easyjet and particularly Ryan Air pleasure to charge me for use of a standard debit card.

I have just put this here because people are still paying the booking fees and still moaning about it daily.

Divoch, you may be in trouble here, and there could be a warning in this for all of you.

I just (5mins ago) rang the Co-op Bank to enquire about opening their 'Cashminder' account - the only one that, supposedly gives you a Visa Electron Card.
    Was led there by this:http://ask.co-operativebank.co.uk/help/current_accounts/cashminder

Was told that since early June, Electron Cards are no longer issued with that account and that, in fact, Visa have withdrawn the Electron card and he couldn't see any other bank issuing one now.

    So, I wonder . . .
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.
