Isn't drinking caster oil work - or is that just an old wives tale?

    ...

My goodness does it work!!! On the advice of my (very experienced, and actually quite old!) midwife, I had 15 ml of castor oil and drank it mixed vigorously into hot balck coffee - the only way to make it go down, so they say otherwise it's vile! I had a (ahem) very good clear out about two hours later, and then the contractions started about another two hours after that. Son no 2 practically slid out. Not recommended really, because you need to be fit and healthy with no other complications, but I just got to the pont where I was so uncomfortable, had about a week left to go and I was just about ready to try anything!
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!
  • Ohhh dont have a Christmas day baby. My 9yr old is a Chrsitmas day baby and she hates her birthday being on the 25th. I hated being in hospital then too it was horrible. They closed one ward and the heating was off.

All mine were induced by the drip and i had really quick labours and birth but if you are going for induction i would recommend checking your birth plan ref pain relief :o

    Ideas to get things going!:

Nipple Stimulation! :o In the bath rub your nibbles for couple mins or so. It will make you contract. :rotfl:

    S e x :D

    Hot Curry

    Long Walk

Have you been drinking Raspberry tea? It is great for helping loosen your cervix muscles. Makes for a shorter labour apparently but best to start drinking from week 36.

There are various oils you can use to help - you put couple droips in your bath - but you have to be careful and research the right ones as using the wrong ones can be dangerous.

Also on a pregnancy forum i use to read when i had my youngest DD a couple of the ladies had acupuncture and also the one with the foot massage and both went into labour day after having the treatment! Both are safe for you and baby as long as you go to a registered and fully qualified practioner.

Hehe thanks 3_cheeky_princesses. Already on the raspberry leaf tea (will make myself another cup in a minute me thinks!) and will start swallowing more evening primrose oil which is apparantly good for the cervix. Kept myself active today going up and down stairs and cooking a cake. Doing a bit of hoovering and tidying up tomorrow so maybe that'll help. Having chinese with my friend tomorrow night, so will choose something a bit spicy, and then having an Indian Saturday! Will have to make sure I do a bit more walking me thinks.

Sex is out - mainly because hubby finds it a bit weird (which is fair enough!) and also because my knee is still a bit odd after the car accident. But hey, if he's keen for baby to come soon, he might be persuaded.... lol

Will have a think about the foot massage...sounds lovely.... :D

The midwife in anti natal classes said that both caster oil and hot curry just upset your stomach which MAY help the uterus, but also if you have a little accident during labour..it's a bit....messy. lol :o Sorry if too much info. So I'll stick with just the curry as I like it anyway!

A friend of my parents used to go out with one of them! I think I met him...

Sending you lots of labour vibes, try all the tricks in the book (curry, sex, pineapples, cleaning) - they don't work but will keep you busy! ;)

Can you remember what he was like?? I should have had Derren Brown as one of my dinner guests - completley forgot about him! Love him! So clever. Actually think he may be an alien.... would explain his power. ;)

Oh yeah, hubby is picking me up some fresh pineapple too!! :D I'm willing to try most things at the moment. lol

Thanks all for your labour vibes! I'll keep you all updated! But don't hold your breath... lol

Hope everyone's feeling better, and doing well Christmas wise!

  • Have been reading through this thread and just wanted to ask if there will be a folder challenge being started for 2010?

The reason I ask is that I would love to start this for 2010 but am at a slight loss as to what should be put in mine, I have added some of the sections shown in the post for this but wondered if there are any other that should be there that would be important? and if it's mainly to cope over Christmas lol

Thanks for any help :) and i'm looking forward to do some challenges in 2010 so I can get my spending down throughout the year especially at Christmas :)
