Nannyboo - your a woman after my own heart I love planning everything to the last minute

See you all soon girls xXx

Me too! I tend to have my Christmas Day Schedule written out ages before, with times to put everything in oven/ on stove, all done backwards from whenever we plan to have dinner. Everyone takes the pish but it works for me and I hate cooking when I'm stressed. But woe betide anyone who messes it up for me lol!

  • Right you lovely people you. Some thoughts?

As baby is due mid December (ish!) we're not doing much over Christmas - what I mean by that is that normally we're at my parents for Christmas eve and day (South Wales), the in laws for boxing and the 27th (London), then back to South or West Wales for the 28th (Nan's birthday). This year they're all coming near us - we're not travelling to London with a new born!! We're doing Christmas day with the inlaws in a rented cottage about 20 mins away from us, then my parents and the inlaws together for boxing night, my parents (30 mins away) on the 27th, and again at my parents on 28th for Nan's birthday. Anyway, I digress...

Normally for christmas eve/day I do a big cawl (lovely veggie soup) for the evening meal on Christmas eve - good way to get some decent veggies in you before all the chocolate! - then contribute to the Christmas meal by generally helping out with the cooking and prep, and also pre-preparing sausages wrapped in bacon, and stuffing wrapped in bacon. This year I'm not doing any of this! Other priorities! lol

So what hubby and I thought would be nice is for us to make our own crackers. I've bought kits of ebay to make 12. I'm going to make 7 for christmas day (inlaws, sis in law, an aunt, a gran, me and hubby) and 5 for new year's eve (the only meal we're cooking in that period - for us, my parents and my nan).

However, I need some suggestions for LITTLE things to go in the crackers. I obviously don't want to be spending a fortune, but I don't want them to be little cheap nasty things either (the types of things you normally get in cheap crackers which I actually love!! lol).

For New years eve, I could possibly do miniatures, but it's not very imaginative..... for Christmas day I couldn't as they're not big drinkers....

    Any thoughts at all?

    Thanks all!!

    Hello,

I hate crackers, you have to spend a fortune to get something decent and the cheap ones are awful.

So this year i am going to do the pots of gold instead. I will put a hat (trying to find gold ones!) in each one with some choc coins, a mint twilight as after dinner mint (if you take the green wrapper of it is wrapped in gold underneath, a joke and a scratchcard. i may try find a small gold item/toy to go in each too but not sure about that yet. I thought it would be different and will use platic cups sprayed gold with gold tissue in the bottom and some gold confetti and then wrapped in cello with a gold ribbon tie.

Hi! Thanks for that, but seeing as I've already bought the cracker kits, I'm going with them this time. Besides, the inlaws specifically are not the type to appreciate the pot of gold idea.

These would look fab with the flannel cakes or sock cupcakes as you said Irishgirl and wrapped in cellophane with a bit of curly ribbon, you could sell these at a craft fair and I think people would go mad for them, they look great.

Okay I am really sorry for bumping up old posts but i had to for a couple as I am intrigued these sound interesting where will I find info on how to make these. I haven't crafted in ages and really fancy trying this
    Kate :hello:
  • I dont know if any of you have the cricut... along with scal as i found loads of fantastic cupcake wrappers free files to download... here is one which i am thinking of adapting for pots of gold

Okay nuisance here again I have a Cricut very rarely used but do not have any idea of what scal means and what is a pot of gold it sounds intriguing

    Many thanks in advance
