have you gave it any thought why they give you 1 month free ? ,,, could it be that we live in a busy world and they prey on that ,,, why dont they just offer this service straight off the bat because no would then forget to cancel would they,, all i wanted was to pay for my stuff and get on with more important things not read lots about postage ,,, and ya right it is clear but its not for me ,,, keep it basic lol
Amazon are not 'preying' on anything or anybody.
They offer a service that will cost you nothing if you use it properly but will cost you if you don't.
Notice the 'you'?
Have you never heard of personal accountability?
I'm not sure what you're getting at "why dont they just offer this service straight off the bat".
They do offer the service.
It's a chargeable service.
They offer it free for a trial period.
I think you say it all here:all i wanted was to pay for my stuff and get on with more important things not read lots about postage ,,, and ya right it is clear but its not for me ,,, keep it basic lol
If you click willy-nilly on every button when you're ordering something and don't read what's on the screen, sooner or later you'll come up against a company who won't be so accommodating as Amazon are at refunding your money.
But Hey! If you can't be bothered to read important stuff......0 -

Yeah, custardy, but if someone can't be bothered to read a shedload of text explaining about how the one-month free trial works, they are hardly likely to go to the trouble of changing their Amazon settings.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people are so eager to splash their cash that they don't check what they are signing up for.0 -

It still amazes me that we have all these "experienced internet users" and "net savvy" people that are far too quick to cry SCAM and RIP OFF when they themselves are to blame. The scam and rip off here is that MSE members get scammed and ripped off by people who "just don't bother".
There are 19+ pages on here and do they even take a minute to browse though a random selection of pages to find it's NOT a scam or rip off? No. They dive straight in and complain just as they dived straight in to order and clicking without giving thought to their actions. The man without a signature.0 -

i am with you on this , i have been trading with amazon for a couple of years with no problems and for them to put something in that can catch you out real easy is not good custom relations and i can do without this , so i will be closing my account with amazon to and move on to some one that i dont need to watch out for littel traps to get my money ,,, cheers ronnie
Ronski, to clear things up for you, this is how it works :
You order something from Amazon.
When you check out, you can take the option of a free trial for free postage on this one order.
When you agree to the free trial, it tells you that if you don't cancel you will be signed up to an annual service (£49) which gives discount on postage on further purchases.
If you use Amazon a lot, this will probably save some people a huge amount of money in postage over 12 months so it's probably quite a good offer from them.
No con, no scam, no rip off, no catch, no little traps, just Amazon offering a service which you can choose to accept or not. Same as every other website.0 -

To be sure, that's how it works, Meer53 - but the people who are shouting scam, con, rip-off etc are the people who ignore what's in front of them on the screen to get to the 'pay now' button.
I'm not sure it will save a lot of money in postage as I think (I may be wrong) Amazon did away with the free postage over £x ages ago.
I think regardless of cost, it's free postage now.
I know I was looking at something priced at £3.66 and you can get it delivered free with 'Super Saver Delivery'.
I might just have been lucky but I've always chosen Super Saver Delivery and everything has come well before the expected due date.0 -

Surely it's less stupid to be 'ripped off' by some hidden, possibly unscrupulous company or method (which is what you seem to be suggesting you/your industry does) than to be so computer unsavvy that you click willy-nilly on websites and sign youirself up to something that costs you money.................
As I've said before:
sooner or later you'll come up against a company who won't be so accommodating as Amazon are at refunding your money.
I think there's a number of types of people who buy from Amazon:- those who read about Amazon Prime and decide they don't want a free trial
- those who read about it, decide they'll take advantage of the free trial and cancel before it costs them money
- those who read about it, decide they'll take advantage of the free trial and then CONCIOUSLY continue with the service and are happy to pay for it
- those who don't read about it, realise they've been charged, hold their hands up and say 'Whoops, my mistake. Amazon, please may I have my money back'.
- those who don't read about it, realise they've been charged - and scream con, scam, rip-off etc etc because they can't see what they've done wrong
