    Part-time foundation degree?

If you are part-time and have applied for the tuition fee grant and course grant with a PTG1 form, you should apply to the ALF as one of the specific purposes is to fund childcare for part-time students.
  • I was looking into this. Im living on an NHS bursary only and dont have a student bank account, overdraft, or any other form of income (due to bad credit history and previously being a student). I was managing fine on £510 a month (dont ask me how!) until I found out that for the next six weeks I have to be at university for 9am four days a week. I live in Derby (where my training hospitals are) and commute through to Sheffield as im only at university for 14 weeks a year. In order to get to uni for that time its going to cost me £78 a week for train and bus fares.

I only have the money for around three weeks of this so I would hope that I qualify for some help from the fund. However, when I looked for information at my uni website it said that applications would not be considered until 15 November unless it was an emergency. Do you think this would qualify as an emergency? Im basically not going to be able to attend my lectures in three weeks time unless I get some help!

    Hey
I am in my third year of uni and due to my dad being ill in 1st and second year and not working as he was waiting on an operation i had to get an overdraft to support myself as my bursary didnt cover my costs of my phone bill, dig money to parents(They needed it as living on just my mums wages), general money for getting to and from uni, lunches etc when i was there and money for generally keeping myself. However i did also buy a laptop in 1st year which has now been broken and i require to get another one but my overdraft is allready at £1300 and i dont want to get anymore on it as i am just managing to pay off the required amount each month to reduce it slightly. Now i require to get another laptop or computer to ensure that i can do my uni work as there is not alot of access in my university really on computers apart from an hour at a time which isnt suitable when you are doing coursework. Therefore do you think i can apply for a hardship fund?I didnt even know they existed until i began on this forum any help would be appreciated.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've just applied for ALF - My friend just got awarded 2.5K - She's in the same boat as me being a single mum - differences being she only has 1 child and I have 2.

I also get DLA for Carpal Tunnel and am trying to go through assessment for dyspraxia. I got this the last few years when I was U/G now I'm a P/G and am hoping to get something even though I get teaching bursary - it is tough getting to Oxford 2 days a week and then to teaching placement so transport is nearly £50/week! And I have spent a small fortune on books etc

It's taken me about 2 hours to get all paperwork collated and filled in but am just hoping I get a little something - last year when I was at Birmingham I got £500 which I was so grateful for.

I was wondering is there a list anywhere of what the limit for things are like expenses for food, rent, books etc - I don't want to look as though I'm too extravagant - IYSWIM?
