I am always tryin to underline the usefulness of ATLF to my 'peeps'
I am doing a Masters Degree and got 1.9k this year and 3.5k for final year study. Just use words such as anxiety, stress linked to debt and that you fear you may not complete your course because of this always went down well
It is there to be used!!!CC £1700/£1477 HSBC Acc. £-1750/£400Barclay Acc. £-2009/£-1280 / A & L Acc. £-908 £0!! / Finance £-1008 £-590 / Loan £8000 £8000(JANUARY 09 DEBT/ NOW)0 -

Do you expect Oxford Brookes to hold some funds back for you just in case you applied? If they had they would have been disadvantaging people who were proactive and applied sooner. I'm also willing to bet that they kept some money back for emergencies. Perhaps as your course is incredibly well funded in comparison to most, you don't qualify as an emergency.
Yes but as I said in my post - the last Uni I went to, allowed for 2 applications per year and I stupidly assumed ( I know - never !!! uME) that OB did the same. And why do you say that my course is well funded?Noli nothis permittere te terere

Ok, but my point is still valid; did you expect them to hold funds back just in case?
Your course is comparatively well funded, in fact it's the best funded course out there, excepting the old Social Work degrees. You should get all the same funding as a regular undergraduate plus the substantial teacher-training Bursary. In my opinion you ought to recognise that when you started the course it was a choice you made and now you should deal with the consequences, either that or quit. Also ALF is never guarenteed and therefore should never be used in a budget.0 -

It's a postgrad course so the bursary will be her only source of funding!
If we all put off learning until we had sufficient funds sat in the bank, most would never get there!0 -

Erm - It's a Post Compulsory PGCE so doesn't attract the same bursary as 'normal' teaching certificates. £3000 as opposed to £9000 or whatever the others are at the mo'.Noli nothis permittere te terere

Ok, then you get £3k more than the average student. My heart bleeds.0 -

It's a choice though, and if you can't afford to do something then you don't. You wouldn't choose to go on holiday when you couldn't afford it. There's help out there but the funds that Universities have are always taken up by the people who didn't think about the financial sustainability of their study. Anyway the Access to Learning Fund is going to be much more limited in future years as the Government cut funding, so people who don't think won't be bailed out; and quite right too.
Additionally i believe the course you mention gets the standard undergrad funding plus the TT Bursary.0
