Hi There - this is my 1st appearance on a forum so forgive me if i'm in the wrong place - i received these 2 alerts from Equifax as i subscribe to them.
1st Alert:
"CAPQUEST UK LTD , a Debt Collector company, has made an inquiry against your credit report on 01/12/2009 . If you were not aware of or did not consent to this search, contact CAPQUEST UK LTD or Equifax for clarification.
2nd Alert:
CAPQUEST UK LTD , a Debt Collector company, has made an inquiry against your credit report on 23/11/2009 . If you were not aware of or did not consent to this search, contact CAPQUEST UK LTD or Equifax for clarification.
I'm sure that 2 searches
Now today I too have received a letter from Telogram (which is a dormant company according to companies house) asking me to verify that i am the person that lived in an address that they have listed - I did – moved out in 1992 - this has come completely out of the blue, I cant remember the last time I had a debt collection letter !! admittingly - when I lived there fell on some hard times and was pretty young and naive at the time but you don't want to hear about all that, but since then I've put my life on track, have my own business and try to keep in the black and maintain a good credit rating. This has now made me very worried because 2 searches by a debt collector will no doubt put my once good credit rating, into tatters the only thing i can think of is that i had an account with the abbey, but i'm sure that was closed amicably after i left the address anyway, in fact I still have my mortgage with them at the house I've had for the last 10years - I'm tempted to leave it and see what happens next and making a point of not taking the letter to work in case I get tempted to phone them as thats what they want me to do to prevent them moving the record to an investigation unit where, they quote, "further research will be undertaken."0 -
Any debt from 1992 has been statute barred for over a decade. They can do nothing to you.
If you are worried about your credit record then get an up to date copy of your credit report. You should see that the searches are non reportable. That means only you can see them and your credit record is not effected.
I would ignore this.

I hear so many different stories about these types of debt - one that stands out is the fact that they can chase you if you have a county court judgment for the debt, I'm not saying I have - I dont know but I'm sure that I wouldnt have been able to get a morgage or loans if I had.
My question is,what happens if a summons was issued back then that i did not receive because I moved house and because I did not receive it, I could not defend, then after a month, a judgment was issued, is the judgment transferrable eg, can the abby sell the judgment on or would the new collectors have to pursue me again through the courts, I see they did a search at my previous address so they know where I have lived in the past 10 years anyway, I just hope they dont start making life more difficult than it already is!! - The upside is that if the judgment cant be enforced by the new collectors then I can simply & polically tell them to get stuffed.
The only other debt i can recall was later on where the last payment made was beginning of 2001 and no contact whatsoever has been made since then - I still have the payment book.
I was also wondering if they are putting a really old address to try and get me out of the woodwork and to admite to something else.0 -
If you did not inform the creditor of your new address, then they are entitled to issue the claim at the last one they have and obtain a "default" judgement.
However, if Capquest have the debt, I would guess they probably didn't. They do attempt to collect a lot of statute barred or unenforceable debts in the hope that you don't know the legal position.
A judgement debt can be sold on like any other.
A debt with a judgement does not become statute barred, but if after 6 years they have not attempted enforce the judgement, then they cannot do so without the permission of the court. They would have to give good reasons why they did not try before.
A search from a debt collector shouldn't effect your credit report if I remember correctly. You can see it happened as it is your report, but any potential creditor you apply to won't.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Having recieved one of these letters i did a little bit of research on companies house, as i felt it was a scam letter as no one of that name lived at my address. Telogram started life as WH 216 ltd and when you look closer it was part of a group of companies all registered with the name WH 323 through to WH 357 all at the same address, all now dissolved. when you look up the full details WH stands for Wright Hassal ltd, Tongue in cheeky b******s i would say. The letter they semd is downloaded from a site run by HL Legal where for a couple of pounds you can download an official looking template of a letter, note the signature at the bottom its HL Legal not any of the partners, also all the supposed partners names are contained in the bottom right hand corner not as is customary in the top right hand corner, and finally the fact that you are asked to contact Telogram direct shows its a downloaded template. Some good advice on here has been to contact the OFT and Trading Standards and your local police, even if the letter does not apply to you, as this course of action will help to put these unscrupulous characters out of business.0

This is to let everyone out there know that Telogram otherwise known as Capquest and various other alias names get their information from > Do you beleive it ? Television Licensing! Wow. Some of you ask yourselves, did you just move house and get a new or renewal TV licence ? Or maybe after months of dodging one you gave in and bought it ? Then hey presto ! a Telogram arrives. Now who else is doing the dodgy dealing. If this is the case then tv licensing will also be getting a kickback, won't they ?0
