Hi
I had a letter ftom smelogram about a year ago. It was in a large bold font on the address, very official looking yet when opened it was really flimsy paper, scam I thought.
Next thing I know I am getting letters claiming I owe a debt. These are from Krappe and co.
So I go to the CAB and thence to a solicitors.
I am told that these people are the same company, work hand in hand and are good at the bullying and threatening tactics, often to people who either;
Never owed the debt in the first place.
Have had their debt(s) expire under the statute of limitations within the consumer credit act.
Have either paid off the debt or paid off a percentage of the debt within an legaly binding agreement with their creditor(s).
When looked at closely the letters were rather ambiguous, terms like "After this date we will be able take you to court without further notice"
"Interest will accrue on a daily basis."
Now the details of the alleged debt I owed were scant. However they seemed to refer to an outstanding student loan. When I went to university, in 1978 there were no loans.
On the advice of the solicitor I did not contact these people and I have heard nothing from them since.
Hope this may help someone else, it cost us £150 in fees, not to mention time off work and travelling to find out that these people who were harassing us
had no legal grounds on which to do so, it was pure threat and bluster and they apparntly if given the chance will telephone repeatedly, both at ones home and place of work. Do readexactly what they say in their letters, often it appears more frightening than it is, intimidating is the word I would use. If they do get hold of your telephone number you can always use BT'schoose to refuse service, although thankfully we did not have to do that.

I always do the old "I do not acknowledge this debt with your company." etc. and ask for a copy of the credit agreement. This is normally enough to get rid of them.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0

Exactly - words included in threatening letters are "Might" and "May" a lot of hot air intended to intimidate and pressurise people into paying even when its not their debt0 -
Anyone who receives a letter from this company 'Telegram Ltd' even it is sent in error, should complain to the OFT.
The OFT issue licenses to debt collection agencies, these agencies have a responsibility to abide by certain rules laid down by the OFT.
Telegram Ltd are in my opinion breaking the OFT rules here:
Debt collection agencies are not allowed to contact people in a misleading manner, claiming to have a Telegram for someone & also claiming to be a Telegram company when in fact they are a debt collection agency is in my view & I believe anyone with an ounce of sense will agree misleading.
To complain to the OFT go here:

They can not discuss your affairs nor identity with neighbours. This would be a breach of data protection.0
