Alared - did you have an existing 50plus? I've filled in the bit to transfer my money from my existing issue to the new one rather than send a cheque.
No I closed my previous 50 plus last Nov to transfer it to their "poppy bond",where it still is.
I can`t really believe Cov. will stick to their silly rule after all this furore.
I think,at least this time, they have listened and mainly thanks to the weight of the posters on this thread.
They are in grave danger of losing maturing money by alienating existing customers.
Unbelievable that they can turn away money in the present climate.
The whole management want a kick up the a*se.
Maybe someone should send them a link to this thread. :rotfl:0 -
I’m an existing e-save customer and in my eagerness to get the better rate, sent off my application, forgetting the “only one e-save account allowed” rule. The need to control the number of accounts is a pretty weak excuse. I’m waiting for their response, but see that this account has now been withdrawn. Although Coventry has gone against their statement that all their accounts are available to new and existing customers, I can see why they only want new money: they don’t want to pay a higher rate on funds they already hold. However, they run the risk of alienating existing customers who will move to other societies (like Yorkshire or Skipton) and, more to the point, I think they will miss out on considerable funds that existing customers would have transferred in because of the good rate.
well they have lost me to the Alliance and Leicester because i took it at face value that i would not be able to open another over 50's account. So i have drawn out all i had in there and would not use them again.I think what they have done is ridiculous, only letting people open the account if they have made a fuss.0 -
Actually, I think those that simply applied for this, without asking about previous accounts, got an account opened without problem. Those who asked about the rules were quoted them and told that they couldn't have the account.well they have lost me to the Alliance and Leicester because i took it at face value that i would not be able to open another over 50's account. So i have drawn out all i had in there and would not use them again.I think what they have done is ridiculous, only letting people open the account if they have made a fuss.
My own feeling is that Coventry themselves didn't realise and make the connection that there was this condition before customers started to flag it up to them.

As I have previously said, I had the previous E50 saver which still has 6p in it!, and this morning I received my application form which I had processed online. I signed it and sent it back with a cheque. Easy really. There was also a letter apologising for their statement that it was "for NCO" and that I was able to open this account.:T:T0

I think that it wouldn't have been long before someone at CBS twigged how many existing 50plus holders were opening the new issue and they would have stopped it. At least this way CBS have been made aware of the strength of feeling amongst it's members about the situation and quite a few of us have managed to transfer thereby gaining an extra 1.25% on our savings over the 2nd year rate on the older issue. I applaud CBS for listening to it's members and allowing those who raised the issue to take advantage of the better rate, they can keep my money until something better comes along.0 -
I got the same secure message back as in post 90 (seems standard reply)and also offered the option of the account because of my feedback.
Yet more forms on the way.0 -
I also have an 50 Plus e-Save issue 5 which I opened last October, so didn't think I could have an issue 6.
After reading this thread, I sent an email to Coventry yesterday and received an email this morning, telling me that they are sending me an application in the post.
I doubt I'll receive it in time to get it returned to them by the 15th, due to the postal strike.
They obviously still have the pdf form they had on their website. You'd think they could have emailed me that. Then again, they might receive it back in time for me to qualify for this account.
Cynic - me? :rolleyes:0 -

I wouldn't worry too much about the date, as I received my application form this morning and nowhere, nowhere at all, on this paperwork does it say that it must be back by any given date. I'm not sure where the info about it needing to be back with them by the 15th came from but as I have never been told that and none of the application paperwork states that, then there doesn't seem to be any deadline.
Although obviously you'll want to get it back to them as soon as possible but I wouldn't fret about it being by the 15th.0 -

When they sent mine it arrived the next day. So if they send it today you should receive it tomorrow, although I don't know the state of play with the postal strike at the moment. I returned it the day I received it and sent it recorded delivery.
If you look back to Alared's post #104 the Coventry are treating recorded delivery as proof of posting in time if it doesn't reach them by the 15th. Can't get fairer than that!0 -

Their email to me stated that it had to be back by the 15th. It wont be on the paperwork, it's just they've made this arrangement with some people who have contacted them.0
