I've not had a single drop of rain today although was predicted, got some more borders planted out, dug out the stump of something old and dead at the front and replaced with an agapanthus and a hebe, just lots of little tidying up bits. Need mow the lawn but can't find my extension cable!!

I once had to go on hols at the wrong time and stood my houseplants on a wet towel in the bath. I didn't have capilliary matting. So could you do that? If necessary use cling film across the bath to seal in moisture? Crackers idea I know but meself I'd rather live in hope than be worrying.

No need for the clingfilm, just leave the tap dripping very slightly. Make sure that the towel is under the drip.

I used to do that and it worked every time.

Well I have started to harden my tomato plants today. They have to go out just before half term so my neighbour can keep an eye on them for me as we are away for a few days. So they have 2 and a bit weeks to get tough!

We have the first flowers on both the normal and alpine strawberries so that has given me a little thrill today. I am easily pleased:rotfl:

I have big pots for growing some veg this year but, can't confidently work out how much compost I need for each! I've googled and found some formula and think I've worked it out but now one of my co-workers is making me doubt my sums. Grrrr

I've got 35cm wide by 30cm deep pots which I make to hold about 29L and bigger 40cm wide by 30cm deep pots which I think are about 38L.

Am I on the right track and she even more rubbish at maths than I am or am I way off?

Hoping it warms up a bit at the weekend so I can get these pots filled and my super fast growing courgettes planted up before they take over my vestibule!

    Tx

I had a look for a formula or list and found

    22 litre pot:

    Diameter across top: 35.5cm
    Depth: 26cm
    Diameter base: 28cm

    A 25 litre pot -

    Diameter across top: 38.5cm
    Depth: 27cm
    Diameter base: 29.5cm

You are ment to be bringing cake........:D:rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you Jack's mummy, I am going to car boot the extras, I reckon 50p per pot for the toms, beans (broad & runner), lettuce, rocket, marigolds, marrows, corgettes, cue's~~ if they don't sell I'll just reduce to 40p or so.

I reckon Pen Pen should bring cake as well it is her thread!! :rotfl:

I'm not attempting to help with regard the maths but I have the haxnicks veg planters and they state how much compost they hold, don't know if this will help:
    45cm (h) by 35cm (w) = 40 litres
    30cm (h) by 40cm (w) = 35 litres
    25cm (h) by 45cm (w) = 38 litres
