Even still they have one of the worst jobs in the place - the cocktail waitresses can make a fortune in tips to supplement their wages....the maids get overlooked. I wouldn't want to do their job and I'm quite happy leaving $3-$5/day for them - especially given how much we spend gambling. :)
Not when they clean our room they don't! Tracy goes around clearing up before we go out so that they don't think we are slobs
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

So do I. :) But still, I wouldn't really want to clean stranger's toilets so I suppose that's why I think it's a pretty unappealing job...and I'm pretty sure maids in Vegas have to deal with a lot of pretty nasty situations even if not from us.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I was thinking more along the lines of the after-effects of too much alcohol, really.

I noticed on AA's website that you can use the airport self-service kiosks to check in up to 24-hours before your flight...we'll be staying at a hotel at LHR the night before our flight so this might be handy - especially as from what I can see we can't use online check-in as it's an international flight...but I can't see a clear answer as to whether you can also check bags the night before (ala Virgin's twilight check-in at Gatwick)...all the info I've read says you can check bags when you use the kiosks...but I'm still not 100% convinced that's the case the night before. I tried to call AA but of course their phone lines are now closed.

    Anyone know?

No, but when you find out let us know.;) I don't know what it is with AA! United, Delta, Northwest (as was) all let you check in online when traveling international
