Ditto what penny said - people will be leaning on your seats while waiting for the loos...which gets annoying after the 10th time someone's done it and jolted you from a nap. And it's also likely to be an area people will congregate to drink and chat during the flight.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Also, if you are doing online check in with Virgin, make sure you do it more than 13 hours before your flight or you may not get your requested seats.
To honour this request, Online Check In needs to be completed no later than 13 hours before your flight departs. Whilst we will always try our best to meet your requirements, please note that seat numbers are never guaranteed and are subject to operational changes.

Wow - I never knew that...we normally check in online more or less 24 hours before - and we were told that if we check in online, we were almost guaranteed to get our requested seats (one of the guys at the check-in counter at LAS told us this, that it was 'almost impossible' for them to move our seats after online check-in). I hadn't realise the 13 hour thing...so thanks!

According to kayak.co.uk you can get flights for your dates from £484 (assuming from London, I don't know where you're flying from).

CES starts on the 7th so you may find hotels a bit higher than normal your last night.

I have stayed at Excalibur IP and hooters and they have all been fine, IPs rooms are a bit small but otherwise ok.

I'm toying with a few days in Vegas in early December -whilst checking out hotels I found the Orleans have a special offer of free nights. I looked at 8th and 9th of December -first night $35-second night free. On the Orleans website www.orleanscasino.com under offers.
