You can also check out the reviews of the other hotels you are considering.
I have read good things about the Mirage and then I'll read that the rooms are a bit worn, but I've never stayed there.
I really like the MGM, but would suggest going for a Grand Tower room and not the so called upgrade to a West Wing room. However it's quite far south, but probably the same distance from centre strip as the Riviera.
You can see photos of some hotel rooms here, but unfortunately I can't see the Riv mentioned:-

Mirage rooms are a little worn , with a smallish Barthroom . but they are perfectly comfortable , and The Mirage is a great Casino + hotel . If you don't mind that you don't get the WOW factor , then there is a lot to like about The Mirage IMO . yes there are nicer rooms , but we very much enjoyed our stay there .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

MayJust booked the hotel for the first part of our stay in May - went with IP, as its just too cheap not to use! More money to spend there. Still got the Wynn for 3 nights as a treat too!

It's on their website HERE that you need a room key before 1pm. It's a really nice pool as well.0 -

Now that's going from the ridiculous to the sublime! I have stayed at the IP 7 times and enjoyed it every time. Just make sure you get a deluxe room rather than a standard and definitely not a Capri room.
Also, ask for a quiet room if you value your sleep as the rooms facing Carnaval Court suffer the music until 4am at the weekend and either 2 or 3am mid week.0 -
Thanks to Luci and Pebblesmax. I was only planning on going swimming once as there's so much else to do so it's not really a problem.0
