This was on Mon Ami Gabi's Facebook page in case it interests anyone...it's vaguely interesting to me but as I'm not a massive fan of French food in general and not a wine drinker, we'll give it a miss I think.

Mon Ami Gabi - Las Vegas On Saturday,October 3 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Executive Chef Terry Lynch will teach you how to cook a three-course French and Julia Child inspired meal at Mon Ami Gabi. Indulge in these specialties while enjoying a French wine tasting! Cost is $40 per guest. Please call 702.944.4224 to register!

I've now had a further email about this with details of the food that is involved and now it sounds more interesting since everything they're cooking is something that I love. :) I'm just thinking that we could easily lose $40 in the slots in 2 hours...so maybe this would be a sensible distraction...decisions, decisions.

Our Executive Chef Terry Lynch will teach you how to cook a three-course French and Julia Child inspired meal at Mon Ami Gabi. Learn how to prepare the French classics of Onion Soup au Gratin, Beef Bourguignonne and Chocolate Mousse. Indulge in these specialties while enjoying a French wine tasting (as Julia would insist!). Cost is $40 per guest. Please call 702.944.4224 for registration.

We are staying at the IP in November so will use the $20 trick if pos. So, we just hand them the bill and ask for any complimentary upgrades?

You will just check in using your name on the booking, so hand them a CC, you passport with $20 or more inside it and ask if they have any upgrades.

The Special offer at Treasure Island where you get 30% off for booking over 91 days in advance, does anyone know if this is a limited time thing or if it is always available?

Trip Report 12th - 15th September

I've just about recovered from the jet lag so i'll do this while I remember everything. 4 of us went for a girlie long weekend to celebrate my friends birthday. She had never been before but it was my 4th time.

Day 1 - Flew out of Heathrow to LA and then on to Vegas. The flight was at 9.55am but we were a bit late leaving as someone didn't turn up at the gate and they had to offload their bags. Luckily we had 3 hours in LA before the next flight so it didn't matter too much. Flight was OK and I watched the Hangover to get me in the mood for Vegas.
Landed at LA on time but there was a huge queue at imigration but we only had to go to the terminal next door for the next flight and got there in plenty of time.Flight to Vegas took just under an hour and we had a limo waiting to take us to the hotel. The limo was a birthday surprise for my friend so we had to take loads of pictures before we set off. Supposed to have champagne as well but he had ran out and didn't have time to get some before meeting us. He stopped at an off licence to get some but we decided on vodka and red bulls instead! Perked us up a bit for the eveing anyway. Quick drive down the strip and we arrived at the Mirage at 7pm.
I didn't try the $20 trick as all the tower suites have king beds and we wanted rooms with 2 queens.Got rooms on the same floor and had a pool view even though we hadn't booked it. Rooms have recently been renovated and they're really nice, flatscreen tv and wonderfully comfy beds. The bathroom is a bit small with no seperate shower but we didn't care as we were only there 3 nights. I think the tower suites on the higher floors have bigger ones with seperate shower and double sinks.
Quick shower and change then we went out for a meal. Decided to walk over to the Venetian and went into the Italian in the Grand Shops. The meal was fantastic, can't remember how much the bill came to but it was cheaper than I thought a meal in there would be. Stayed ther until about 10pm and then wandered back to the Mirage. We were all tired by then but I decided not to go to bed until I'd tried the slots. The other 3 went to bed and I went wandereing looking for my favourite machine. I always play the $1 Wheel of Fortune but they didn't have one in the Mirage, all of theirs are now the wheel of gold and don't have the progressive jackpot. Crossed over the road to Harrahs to try there instead. Had a little win so decided to go to bed. Got as far as the crossing and decided to pop into Casino Royal for another go. Had another little win and went back to the Mirage about 12.30 convinced I was on a lucky streak this trip!

Day 2 - 6.30 am my friend in the other room calls saying she's up and wants coffee! All go down to Starbucks, get a coffee and then back upstairs to get dressed for breakfast. Decide to go over the road to Denny's and then go out exploring the hotels. Started at Caesers Place walking through the Forum shops. It was still early and the shops weren't open so we headed through the hotel. I've stayed at Caesers twice before and love this hotel. Then went over to the Bellagio , over to the Paris and then Planet Hollywood. 2 of the girls wanted to do a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon so we walked along to the place that sells the trips from the portacabin place as she had been told by another friend they got a good deal there. They booked a flight for that afternoon so we headed down to the MGM. The CSI experiance has just opened so we checked the ticket prices and planned to go back the next day. Wandered through the MGM and then over to New York New York. Had cocktails in the Irish Bar and a little flutter on the slots but no luck there. Taxi back to the hotel as they had to get ready for the helicopter trip. My other friend was tired so she had a lay down while I hit the shops.
Decided to have another go on the Wheel Of Fortune first so back over to Harrahs intending to play the same machine I won on the night before. Someone was already on it and as I got closer I realised he'd just won the $1000 on the spin. Gutted I went next door to the IP to plays theirs. Always been lucky in here but this time lost most of the night befores winnings in 15 minutes! Not one spin so I went over to Caesers to play that one. No luck there so I went into the Forum shops.
I love this shopping mall so had a good look around everywhere. I got some good bargains in Clavin Klein as they had 30% / 50% / 70% marked off everything. Checked out the prices in Abercrombie and looked for Uggs then headed back to the Mirage. Went to have a blow dry in the salon for a treat then got ready for the evening.
We had tickets for O that night but as none of us were really that hungry we didn't bother eating first. I've never seen any of the Cirque shows as I didn't think it was my thing but this was amazing. It well worth seeing and I'll probabaly now try one of the other ones when I next go.
Came out of there just after midnight and decided to have our phots taken by the Bellagio photographer. She took us out on the terrace overlooking the fountains with the views of the Paris in the background. Grabbed a coffee to perk us up while we were waiting for them then headed back to the Mirage. Decided to stay up and play Roulette for a while. Didn't win but we worked out system to win big on the last night!
Got to bed about 4.30am!

I'll carry on with day 3 a bit later

Just had this through from Virgin - not sure if it's much of a benefit paying $20 per 2 bags to drop them off at these hotels instead of checking in at the airport (or checking in online then doing a bag drop at the airport), but i'm sure some people will find it very useful! :)

We are pleased to announce that when travelling with Virgin Atlantic from Las Vegas, you are now able to check in at one of eight off-airport check in kiosks. This new service is being offered in conjunction with McCarran Airport and 'Bags To Go'.

You will be able to check in your baggage at a price of $20 for every two bags, up to the baggage allowance for your class of travel. Hand baggage only passengers can check in and receive your boarding card free of charge at the Kiosks.

You can take advantage by going to one of the locations below along with your bags, travel documents and a form of ID, like your passport.
• Luxor Hotel - 0700-1400
• Venetian Hotel - 0700-1400
• McCarran Rent-A-Car Centre - 0600-1500
• Las Vegas Convention Centre ( Only available when a convention is running)
It will be just like checking in for a flight at the airport, but without the airport! The next time you will see your luggage is when you arrive at London Gatwick so you can have more time to try and win your fortune, relax by the pool or even get married!
