SeptemberUp to date reviews here:-

You can also check out the reviews of the other hotels you are considering.
I have read good things about the Mirage and then I'll read that the rooms are a bit worn, but I've never stayed there.
I really like the MGM, but would suggest going for a Grand Tower room and not the so called upgrade to a West Wing room. However it's quite far south, but probably the same distance from centre strip as the Riviera.
You can see photos of some hotel rooms here, but unfortunately I can't see the Riv mentioned:-

SeptemberHere's another site that may be helpful. There are links on some of the hotel pages to view their rooms, pool, etc but not photos of the Riviera rooms that I could see.

October , NovemberI am willing to give it a chance and i definately will be trying for the upgrade. I have tried to get reviews on the different towers and rooms but all i seem to come across is old reviews on the hotel in general or reviews on the old rooms.
.
On the tripadvisor link Luci posted scroll down about 1/2 way and you can see traveller photos of the various rooms too...click on see all photos and click through them. Some people have helpfully labeled the Monaco Tower room photos and also Monte Carlo tower photos. I love the fact that someone took a picture of the safe in the room - but more importantly that they have a sandwich and some crisps in the safe.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Take a look at the Desert Rose Resort just behind the Strip. You can get a one bed condo for a great price and it gets terrific reviews. I've just booked a week there in december followed by three nights in TI (free Mystere tickets) followed by a night in a Bellagio fountain view room for my last night. Prices in Vegas are very low at the moment :j0

SeptemberYou're welcome.
Oh, I thought you said Thanks............0 -
AugustI've stayed at the Riviera twice. I rather like it.
First time I got upgraded into a suite (priceline booking) I didn't ask it was just offered. second time was comped despite the fact I'd gambled there very little. Got a deluxe room-nicely appointed and very clean and comfortable.
The buffet however was awful. I'd just walk or hop onto the Deuce -I spent most of my time at the Flamingo/Ceasers and it wasn't an issue. With the automated system I couldn't see any way to hand over the $20 discreetly but as I said it was upgraded anyway. I met others who'd also got free unasked for upgrades too.
I don't particually like the MGM as I'm not a fan of huge hotels but it's certainly got wow factor and might be a better choice for a first visit as it is more central. Out of those on your list I'd probably choose the Mirage though. I agree with most of the other comments-except for TI which I really don't like as the service we've recieved there on several visits was consistantly dreadful -good location though.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

A quick question regarding hotel swimming pools - hopefully someone could help. My parents went to vegas in march and they seemed to get the impression that each pool was only available to guests of the particular hotel. I'm staying in circus circus but would quite like to use some other pools (i like the look of caesar's palace and the bellagio pools). Would I be able to do this and, if so, would it cost much?0
-
October , NovemberYou would not be able to do this. Most pools are for guests only and require a room key to enter.
It is generally frowned upon for people to go to other hotel pools. I wouldn't like you to be embarrassed by being turned away.
Others may have other opinions, but I think it is rarely done. There are places that have special days such as Rehab at the Hard Rock, where you can pay to go in. I have never done this. It is for the youngsters, IMHO.0 -
SeptemberNo you cannot use the pools at other hotels, the are exclusively for hotel guests and keys are checked as you enter. It's probably to prevent people booking a cheap hotel and trying to use the facilities of a more expensive hotel that hotel guests have paid for.
The exception to this is the Flamingo where the pool is open to the public from 1pm.0
