Have been lurking here for a long time but never spoken! So here is my first posting! Have just returned from a 2 week holiday to Las Vegas with hubby & 2 teenagers. We had a fab time, this forum was marvellous to pick up hints & tips. We flew with Virgin from Gatwick, stopped at the Cliffs at Peace Canyon, a 15 minute easy drive to the strip, this was great because we did the strip in bitesize chunks as there was so much to see and do.

While there, we travelled out to Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Death Valley & the Grand Canyon.

Enjoyed the Fountians at the Bellagio & Freemont Street the most. Saw the Lion King at Mandalay bay which was awesome.

Hubby & son enjoyed shooting an automatic machine gun...men & there toys! Daughter & I had Pandora Bracelets instead! much better idea.

Recommend Las Vegas to all as so much to see & do.

    Many thanks for reading.

It would be very helpful maybe if you could let everyone know how you managed in Vegas for 2 weeks with teenagers. What did you do with them to keep them amused at night etc.
P.S. Glad you had a good time, you know you will be back. one word of advice, DO NOT EVER get an upgrade on a flight, because then you will not only have the expence of taking to teenagers back, but you will always only ever be able to travel by turning left on a plane again, trust me on that:rotfl:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

i'm sure doodle-bug will help you out when they've recovered from jetlag :) i think ferf and pebbles have been there too but i'm not sure!

   [/QUOTE]
Can't believe I missed that!! Thanks for pointing it out. Yes - doodle-bug, if you have any tips about SouthPoint, please share them. Not going until next April but am spreading out the enjoyment by planning the trip now.

We are thinking of driving to the Grand Canyon from LV and staying overnight in a Bright Angel cabin before driving back. (I booked one the other day as I know from reading on here that you need to reserve well in advance). WE can cancel it if we change our mind. Had originally thought of doing a bus trip but was sick on a bus last week and that put me off the long bus journey to South Rim! Will be more flexible too. DO you think we could do Hoover Dam on the way back, if we left GC late morning?

Has anyone ever been to the Southpoint casiino? The timeshare we'll be staying in is right next door to it apparently. Are the places to eat there any good?

We stayed there in May 2008. We didn't do much in the way of dining there. the cafe is OK and so is the buffet. The Micheal's steakhouse that used to be at Bill's was relocated there if you want a bit of fine dining. We didn't go, but that is supposed to be very nice indeed.

The also have a large cinema and showroom there.

Michael's Gourmet Room | Silverado Steakhouse | Don Vito's Italian | Primarily Prime Rib
Baja Miguel's Mexican | Coronado Cafe | Garden Buffet | Big Sur Oyster Bar | Quick Bites

These links should take you directly to the different restaurants on the property.

    hope that helps.

mookybarky - how long did chicago take you to transit ?

i'm starting to panic a bit as we only have 1hr 35mins between flights , to land , get off , pick up our cases , clear customs, drop off cases again and we have to change terminals from t5 to t3..... although i believe that's only 2 minutes

Just spotted this ..... it took us just over an hour for the distance of a 3 minute walk around a corner. Once we got rid of our bags, it's was a skip and jump to the gate. There'll be others getting off your flight onto the same connection so I expect they might bump some people through if getting too close, but we didn't see any organisation when we were there. We did get our plane though, so don't stress too much :)

Remember, you can have good and bad experiences in everything, so it may just have been an off day........

you cannot try the $20 trick with a web check in , though i imagine someone has to give you a room key .

if ain't broke don't fix it , i would check in the old fashioned way .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
