I doubt it is that, its a cost issue, why the hell would comet want to go to court over a dvd recorder, washer etc, the reason they agree (if they do that is) with the customer is to get rid of them,we dont want people like that in a shop shouting their mouths off about how they know consumer law etc when most of them dont. Again this is not aimed at you, having somebody stand in my shop and shout at the top of their voice not to shop at comet because we are rip off merchants, and how he knows his rights and would be taking us to court, the reason? His 11 month old vacuum was faulty and we wanted to repair it, thats the majority mate, not a clue what they are talking about.

Obviously I do not know about everyone who enters a Comet store, I can only go from my own expierence, but I do know my rights, and their limitations, yet I still had a spotty oik (and he was) and a manager telling me I was wrong. Now that is not right, and it has happened at more then one store, and judging by the posts on here I am not alone - now the store you work in may be different, but to be honest I think the training they provide you with gives you incorrect infromation and you have to rely on that information when dealing with a customer, so it is down to Comet to update their training - but they won't as it will cost them money.

So you now agree that the contract, and it is a contract, is between the customer and the retailer ( comet )?

And there is nothing special about a 12 month guarantee either.

If you sold me a t.v. with a 12 month warranty and it broke down after 18 months or even 30 months, then I would drag comet into SCC and win.

Goods have to last a reasonable length of time.

Course you would, thats pathetic. Not quite sure how you would win, what happened if you'd had it on 24/7, 7 days a week?

Oh and if it broke down after 30 months the its comets fault right? If your car breaks down after 2 years do you drag ford/vauxhall to a scc? Er nope. You pay your insurance to get it fixed.

And if I took something back to comet and someone started spouting nonsence to me then I would jump up and down then a demented banshee.

You quite simply do not know the rights of your customers (screamers) and will argue with them believing you are right.

So you are saying the terms and conditions I just reeled off arent reasonable? You do realise that n nearly everything you purchase that comes with one of those warranty cards it says exactly the same thing, so is that unfair too?

In alot of circumstances the terms are not reasonable, no.

But the warranty card is something very different, that is purly in addition to your rights, basically it is a selling point, ie we choose a dishwasher over a different dishwasher cos the one we got had a 2 yr warranty. But the one yr ones I could just throw away as it is down to the retailer not the manufacturer - regardless of what the manufacturer puts in the box I am afraid

This just shows how little you know about the law. Very little.

And why would my insurance company want to know if my car broke down?

I dont argue with my customers, if they treat me with respect I will do the same, if they come in looking for an argument, then they will kindly get out of the store until they have calmed down as I am a human being and do not get paid enough to be treated like that. They can scream all they like, even if they are right, it gets your back up, and it isnt on.

Your car insurance company? Roadside assistance? Please explain why there is a 12 month warranty with products then if you can 'legally' get them replaced/repaired if it breaks after 30 months? Do you know howsome customers treat their products?

Glowy, why not just spend 10 minutes to peruse the easy to read DTI website, it is that easy.

The law states that a product should last a reasonable length of time, regardless of any warranty offered.

You have misunderstood me, what I meant was is the information contained on the card is nearly identical to the conditons on our recipts. If you buy a product from aldi you have to go through the manufacturer, they dont supply any warranty at all, is that illegal?
