I never said a replacement would cause significant disruption (unless, of course, it needs to be ordered in and it would take a considerable amount of time to arrive).

umm yes that right but you will find that most items are exclusive or one model number up from every other retailer that stocks basically the same item so this is how they get around that policy

No i wasnt talking about cheaper product i was talking about all their prices
for example a dishwasher in John lewis on special offer
    http://www.johnlewis.com/Electrical/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/230212788/Product.aspx
is more expensive than by £50 than the same one in the Coop
    http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=MIE-DWR-G1220SC-W

who also have a reputation for being expensive

I assume it has been a while since you shopped there! THey are very clear on their price matching, and have always matched the price for me - but yes it has to be the same model - the same as everyone else who price matches, but they dont have exclusive model numbers like Comet used to!!!

Still quite an interesting debate however my conclusion after reading what glowy and zorber says is - to avoid Comet like the plague - they have participated in this debate in a similar manner to what any poor customer service operative would do in real life - punch and counter punch. I would reall y expect a cso to try to find some middle ground and leave it at that.

I dont treat my customer like that, I treat them with respect as long as they treat me the same, but some people refuse to listen, and I am only human no robot...

I said "either of these", meaning one. So I at no time said a replacement would cause me significant disruption. However, I have since realised it could, if I have to wait for the retailer to order one in.

perhaps smcaul if you didnt refer to sales assistants as "spotty oiks" you would get much more favorable replies, especially when people have already identified themselves as sales assistants.
Whats your occupation ?? what ever it is im sure there is no need to refer to people in such a degrading manner.

If the people who "know there rights" so well could back it up with some kind of evidence for us who disagree ( as i tried to do !! ) it would solve this thread argument.

I refered to an "Individual" as a spotty oik - as he was - I did not refer to all sales assistants as such - please take the time to read the posts carefully before trying to belittle people. As for backing up our case - I think that has been been done quite successfully by Mark87 and myself. I have posted examples where I have had problems and had them resolved (after a battle), I suggest you actually post some hard facts that support your arguments - such as case history where Comet/DSG group have one in court!! As I posted I won against them 4 times - 3 times it got close to going to court, if they were that sure of their T & C's why did they not let it get to court? It would not have cost them anything if they had won - but they wont let that happen because the senior management (not store or area managers) know that what they do is very close to the edge and therefore do not want such cases getting as far as court.
