Since when is a replacement going to cause significant disruption, i would like to see that one go to court!!!!
I never said a replacement would cause significant disruption (unless, of course, it needs to be ordered in and it would take a considerable amount of time to arrive).

If the repair takes the stated 28 days, then it will cause significant disruption. Lets look at one of my other Comet problems:

I recieved a digital camera for Christmas 2004. This was bought near the start of December and (naturally) wasn't opened. Everything seemed fine with it, but a few days after the New Year, I had the camera on my desk transferring pictures to the PC. I noticed that the battery cover wasn't closed properly, so I tried to close it - only to discover that one of the "legs" was missing. It hadn't snapped off, because of the place where it was supposed to be attached didn't have a "wound" consistent with snapping.

It went back and we were told it would be booked in for a repair; we asked to see the manager. After getting nowhere, we decided to wait until the next day when I phoned Trading Standards and told them the story; they agreed with me and I had a new camera within 24 hours.

The reason I didn't accept a repair, is because I needed that camera to meet a deadline - in other words, not having it would have caused me significant disruption.

Are you making this up? We have a xmas returns policy whereas anything bought as a present between early november up to bout mid jan will be exchanged ifunwanted or faulty

I certainly am not making it up. At no time was I told of a "Christmas Returns Policy", nor did I see any literature advertising it.

Tell me, how many days/weeks after purchase is a repair the chosen method?

After a resonable amount of time, defined as very short my trading standards but usually accepted as 28 days for electrical.

They offer a price match guarentee, so I would be surprised if you could find cheaper, and if you could they would match it - but they dont stock the cheaper end of the ranges if thats what you mean.

umm yes that right but you will find that most items are exclusive or one model number up from every other retailer that stocks basically the same item so this is how they get around that policy

No i wasnt talking about cheaper product i was talking about all their prices
for example a dishwasher in John lewis on special offer
    http://www.johnlewis.com/Electrical/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/230212788/Product.aspx
is more expensive than by £50 than the same one in the Coop
    http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=MIE-DWR-G1220SC-W

who also have a reputation for being expensive

We had showcards everywhere. Plus whoever bought the item should have asked about any xmas return policy.
