Hi guys. I had my 13 week interview today. I actually spoke to somebody at the job centre who looked at me and didn't mind questions :j. I have spotted a couple of tempting jobs floating around the jcp website this morning so Im crossing my fingers and toes etc.

hey, I have mine this Thursday - not looking forward to it! Hope I have found out about my referencing by then.

Hello everyone, I am in a bit of a pickle....

I have been offered a job - I went for the interview at the end of May for it - but its a job that is similar to my last one, and I dont want to be all stressed out and do a job I hate all over again. I feel like crying thinking about it. I am still waiting on my referencing to be cleared from the other job I have been offered - the job that I want.

I feel the sensible thing to do would be to accept this other job (pending references) just in case my other job (the one I want) falls through for whatever reason. I just swore that I would never do another job that makes me really unhappy again, but being umemployed is making me really unhappy too.

Anyone's thoughts would be welcomed :D

    Hi everyone.

After this Friday, I won't be back for a while because I have had some fraud on my bank accounts, due, I think, to a Trojan on my computer. I am going to have the whole thing wiped at the weekend, and pending whatever other data/ fraud is turned up, I don't think I dare use the net much anymore. My mother is the expert though, so I'll see what she says at the weekend. Love to everyone xx

    Hia Louise.

I would say not to take that job you don't want that was like your other one, and hold out - I know it's a gamble, but I wouldn't take it if it might make you really unhappy. You have the other one in the pipeline. That's just my opinion based on my own experience - that's all. I would write a list of pros and cons in a logical way and that might help you decide, and also talk to others for their opinion. People who know you will remember the stress the other job put you through, so might be forthcoming with an objective opinion. Good luck

    RR :)
  • Hi all and a big welcome to chicacherrycola - our latest recruit. Congrats on your degree and welcome along. Keep on posting, we're a nice bunch really.

Scrooge; enjoy the sunshine and hope you have a good time, you deserve it. Thanks too for the kind words and support, you don't know what turmoil I'm in but I think I've sorted it all out now... see below...

Rosered; blimey, hope it all gets sorted out and don't go away for too long.

Louise & Medini; well done on your 13 week interviews. They don't really do much but at least you've reached your first milestone. The advisers are actually much nicer in that part of the jobcentre and they seem to be a bit more savvy about looking for a job.

Louise; in addition I'd back up RR and say don't take the job you don't want. Better to hold out and wait for the one you want. BTW, have you got an offer letter and also what's taking so long on the referencing? Must be driving you nuts.

In my experience, however, if you are going in on a temp contract, you could always do the job you don't like for a while just to get back into the routine. But follow your instincts and if you don't fancy it, don't do it. It's not worth your sanity.

So what's Sackcloth been up to? Well, I've got a definite lead on something and hopefully will be making a change soon. Just as well as I've been pretty ill over the last couple of days and my RSI injury has flared up again! It's tough to keep positive but I'm trying and frankly work is the last of my problems at the moment. My OH and child no. 1 are both at home trying to find work with no success and I am now worrying about what we do when the mortgage holiday ends.

Finally, in the meantime, I'm also going to become a home party consultant which I thought might be fun and profitable in the run up to Christmas. Well, you never know.

Okay, that's enough from me. Keep positive and stay strong. In the words of the late Michael Jackson ... "you are not alone"... and "blame it on the boogie...."

    Sackcloth.
Passing it on 24/7... while wearing stylish and confidence building heels!

Weeks until Christmas - 7, yes, I'm already counting...

    Hiya everyone,

I haven't updated in a little while - been really stressed!

Louise, am really sorry you have this dilemma. I sort of agree with the others, though; I wouldn't take a job I was going to hate. It must be really annoying about the references. Is there anyone else they could ask? I worked in recruitment for a little while, and if references were taking a long time to come through I'd ask the candidate if there was anyone else we could ask. They'd probably be quite keen if you suggested it; they must be pretty annoyed at the situation too.

Hey chicacherrycola and welcome!! Big congratulations on your degree.

Sackcloth, some of what you say sounds very mysterious! And I hope the party planning comes together - should be fun, too??

Well, I've been managing to get along, just about. I went a bit mad on Sunday looking on websites of loads of different chain stores, and, as it happens I now have an interview for a Christmas position in retail on Monday. It wasn't what I ever saw myself doing, but actually having some retail experience would probably be quite useful.

Well, I have my appointment to sign on in 1 hour and 20 minutes. After that I'm going to go to the library for a couple of hours to do some job applications (I have a computer here obviously, but there are some things I can't do on it - very confusing). I must be due my 13 week appointment. Although, I don't know if they'll do it from the date of this claim (they made a mistake and ended up closing my claim, so I had to redo it; I'm just thankful that they backdated it without hassle).
  • Hey Lolli, well done on the Boots interview. Don't think about it as a negative, but remember you'll get discounts and the chance to meet people as well. Okay, it's not a career but it will bring in some funds for Christmas. Smile, girlie, and stay positive!

Hiya all, I've not updated for a while either so thought I would pop on.

The job that I ended up working for turned out to be completely different than what I expected or what I am used to, it was quite physically demanding on me meaning I had to search for items in a warehouse and carry stuff up and down ladders etc. My back as been going into spasm as a result and I am being messed about by the agency with regards to pay.

I got very down with it all and my husband just told me to knock it on the head, so here I am again, out of work and jobseeking. I have a couple of leads already though with one possible interview for a job that sounds pretty good.

If I'm honest I'm not doing too good at the moment as got some things going on in my life that has put me on a downer.

I am sorry to hear that :(

If its any consolation, I am on the verge of getting a job offer withdrawn so I am feeling rubbish too :o

Sorry to hear that Louise, is that the same job you've been waiting for references on?

Yeah it was. I was so upset yesterday, but I am sure something will come up eventually :money:
