Right - go grab a coffee, or tea, or whatever, and a large pad of paper and some coloured felt tips - and get brainstorming.......what you have got, what you need, what you have difficulty with, where you have got to go, what needs to be done today, what can wait until tomorrow, or next week, or next month, etc etc etc.....

Sometimes, just getting it all down on paper, in lots of colours, allows you to see things more clearly, to see what can be put off for another day without causing any real problems, and to bring the true priorities to the top of the list, if that makes sense.

Also, remember, that the institutions will be dealing with people who are not working as much/not bringing in as much due to the snow who don't have a disability - there are many businesses, old and new, that will find this winter one of the hardest there is - so if you need to ring the banks, ring them - you won't be the only one, able bodied or disabled, to be doing so because of circumstances outside peoples' control ie the weather.

Spring is on its way.......the snowdrops are already through.

Just a quick entry before rushing off to pick dd from school. Been to the garage today. Since three years ago I have qualified for Motorbility, something Im eternally grateful for and my car is due to be renewed. However, it transpires my current adaption is now obsolete, that is it cost me £700 some 5/6 years ago, .

    Hi P&F!
Hope you are keeping well. Just to say that I was under the impression that Motability could help with the adaptations - it's really worth speaking to them as they're so helpful (I'm making it sound like I work there or have shares - I don't!!)

Have you tried looking around for other makes rather than renewing with your current manufacturer? There are some nil deposit cars available at the mo, so if you're paying some money at the mo, you could use this towards the adaptations?

Just caught up with your thread and sorry to hear about the effect of the snow. Is there anyone in your KL team or a friend who could give you a hand?

  • Hi PAF - come on, where is the positive and Focused person we know and love? I can understand why you are panicking, honestly I can - but it doesn't help at all - like Hypno says - get a cuppa and just sit down and close your eyes for 10 minutes or so - I can see from the timings of your previous posts that you have been up half the night worrying, and that won't do you or your dd any good at all.
I know its really hard not to worry but if you focus on what you want to achieve, you will do it - you always do!
I know I don't know you personally either, but I don't think you are depressed. sad - yes, understandably, but not depressed - In my opinion, depressed people are never positive and optimistic and they certainly don't achieve the things you do :T
You have lots of friends here to support you, and when I win the lottery at the weekend, I will send you the £349 so that will be one less thing for you to worry about :)

  • Ok, thanks Hypno for your common sense advice. Have had a brainstorming session with myself. Still need to sit down to sort out my finances, need to wait for my headache to clear before doing that. Ive taken on enough today.

Have phoned the Halifax re my mortgage. I can make a reduced payment if I need to. It will effect my credit rating.

I have phoned Motorbility. With a grant I have to pay the first £200 and it is a scrutiny process of looking at every penny that goes out of my account. I can not go there. I do not want a stranger to know everything about me and then still possibly turn me down. My other option is I can extend the lease on the car for 6 months at the most. I just need to sit down and assess what I can realistically achieve over the next 6 weeks. Ive arranged to call them tomorrow if I feel the latter option is my only one for the time being.

At the end of the day it all needs paying at some point. I dont want to start being in arrears. Its something Ive clung onto as one of my achievements in dealing with the debt since my LBM.

Just heard from my dear friend who has managed to reach her shop. Its snowing there, and its snowing here still. She thinks I should try and get some books today because nothing is ice as such yet, its just snow which is safer to walk on. Am going to get a cuppa. I have given myself a headache speaking to the delightful Halifax, I need to finish getting dressed, and I need to get to the bank, get some fresh fruit, bread that sort of thing, and pick up what books I can. All with dd in tow. Am hoping she will help me with all of these chores. She is fearless in this weather!

Will do my best. Thats all I can do. I was going to be booking the holiday club for half term next week, but am reluctant to part with any money if this weather is set to continue into next week. So, am going to wait and take my chances.

This is a blip, thats what Im telling myself. All will be well, it simply has to be, the alternative is simply not an option.

  • Oh Paf I so wish I lived near you, I would give you a few hours of my time and collect the books for you. I know that would not take your struggles away in general but I would love to help you, someone who works and tries as hard as you do against all the odds deserves to be helped...

Can DD do all/some of the book collecting while you drive from spot to spot, as you say she is fearless in the snow and maybe you could pay her a little wage packet? I know again that is not ideal but its only because of the snow not because you are expecting DD to work!

I know you don't like to put on people but these are tough times and maybe you need to reach out and actually ask as many people as you can to do things, ie nip to the bank, collect DD, food shop, maybe a book collection or two.

Sorry if I am going over all the things you have already thought of, I just feel so frustrated for you...

    Take care

Thanks PBR, the adaption of £349 is already subsidised by Motorbility as I discovered this am. It would usually be in excess of £700. So for that I am eternally grateful. Thinking about it, I looked up my original invoice for my current adaption and to buy and fit it was just short of a grand. The car I have is a Nissan Micra and it is Nil deposit already. The Manual version would use less of my allowance, however its the automatic one that I need.

Its just a case of deciding can I raise £349 by end of March? And keep everything else upstraight?

I am so sorry for the negativeness Ive expressed, however the one good thing is that this diary is expressing my true feelings, not what I always present as myself to the outside world. And that is somewhat liberating.

Have just had three tel calls from customers. One instructing me not to go her road as it is extremely dangerous to do so in her view. She also gave me an order over the tel. The other two asking me when Im going to deliver their orders. Bless their hearts. If Only I knew!

So, there is alot I can focus on from home, however I do intend to venture out to some roads. Its still snowing, and the ice that is likely to follow will be a million times worse. DD has said she will hold my hand, and I have my walking stick and quite frankly I am not going to get in arrears with my mortgage. I will just have to work extra hard when this weather eventually goes.

Thanks Km You are a poppet.

I feel frustrated for myself too if I can be totally honest. Its just a blip, its not allowed to get bigger, Im not going to let it. Sometimes, everything overwhelms me, I dont know the answers how to overcome it all. Its just how it is sometimes. Im sorry to be a misery!

  • You are not being a misery you are being honest and what good is a diary if you don't tell the truth in it!

I hope the snow goes fast and bless DD saying she will hold your hand she sounds like a real star.

    Just a thought.
Have you had previous employment with an employer who would have a benevolent fund?
If so they will maybe be able to assist with the cost of the adaptations.

Haven't read the whole of your diary sorry, but as a Motability specialist at a Nissan dealer thought I could chip in. Motabilty are not the DLA at Blackpool and whilst the grants process is means tested it is nowhere near as exhausting as the DLA procedures and I really would suggest you enquire about the grant. Speak to the grants department directly on 0844 8000900. I am sure you are aware of this but it really seems your best option to get help with the cost and the worst possible scenario is they say no. If they do start asking for too much information surely you can just pull out at that point, all it will cost you is a phone call!
