Your hubby needs to get a job. Any job. Starting a business at anytime is stressful, and expensive. I think the fact that he needs to accompany you to appointments is not a good enough reason to start his own business. Most companies are reasonable and iwll let him have time off/take holiday.
I would also sell your house/flat before someone tales it off of you.
Your hubby must be highly qualified to have earnt enough to get such a massive mortgage. he should go and get a similar job again. Now. today.
You need to face this together. He needs to support you. If he has his head in the sand, show him this thread.
Keep posting. You will get lots of support here.0 -
He needs a job, thats obvious.sanfrancisco wrote:Your hubby needs to get a job. Any job. Starting a business at anytime is stressful, and expensive.
Starting a business can be stressful, but if that stresses you out, then you're not the type of person who should be doing it, I found it very exciting.
Disagree completely with the expensive bit, if he wants to set up a shop or a "proper" IT business with an office and so on, then you are right, but it sounds to me like he wants to work from home and he can do that for virtually nothing to start with.“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0 -
I was about to say the same thing, he needs a job and anything will do, pub work, work in a sports shop (sports soccer are always after staff) anything to bring some cash in.0

Have to agree with the 'get any job'. Its certainly what my OH would do. Bringing in some money by any old job is better than waiting for something 'similar to the old job' to pop up (and that might never happen).Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Just want to reiterate the caution about starting up your own business.
There are more and more posts on this site about people who have gone out on their own and have quickly found themselves in financial trouble.
The statistics show that over 80% of small businesses fail within their first year of start-up. It is not an easy thing to start a business, and you cannot do it without capital behind you.
You need a decent business plan, you need to research your market, have an idea of who you are selling to, what exactly it is that you're selling, providing. It requires a lot of research and effort.0 -
Right last thing I'm going to say on this subject.
I've actually done it, not just read about it, so I know where I'm coming from.
Running my own business for 5 years.
He can start it for very little money, it doesn't require massive amounts of research or effort, no more than doing an everyday job, with a little bit more.
I'm guessing he doesn't need to research his market because he is already in the industry.
Not everyone is cut out to run their own business!!“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0 -

IT industry is notoriously temperamental... Given the choice I'd say he should get a job with benefits and what have you, and you need to find someone else who can take you to and from hospital...
Until he gets another job then ANY work is good! I work in IT, have done for some years and I am now in the position where I am in charge of whom I hire. If someone has a long period of unemployment then I want to hear a bloody good reason for it or I won't employ them. I have however taken on waiters and shop assistants and even teachers and one of my best staff I had straight of a building site... All of them showed they were willing to work to keep going and not just accept benefits and they would take any job if needed be. Dossing around at home as self employed I'm afraid would NOT impress me. And my OH is the same and he's senior management for a HUGE company with a lot more staff than me.
For pocket money there is nothing stopping him offering his PC repair skills to people, but I would say BRUSH UP ON VIRUSES because this is the area where people panic and want help. Most people can change a hard drive or know someone else who can lend a hand. Once they have a virus however they want the re-assurance of someone who knows what they are doing.
For now though ANY work will do! Is there anyway you could help at home too maybe with envelope stuffing? You get paid per envelope and not per hour so you work when you feel well enough

Umm - not envelope stuffing! I've never heard of an envelope stuffing scheme that wasn't a scam.0
