... and would any old catalogues (such as one from 1999) be of any value to anyone? I keep finding the odd catalogue now and then, and apart from their uses with RO, are they worth anything?

i just love Argos. I have never had any problems with returns (touch wood)
and know that as long as i have my receipt if the thing breaks within a year i can get a refund or replacement. I also know that if i change my mind after 16 days and have lost the receipt as long as the whole item is still in the original packaging I can get gift vouchers to the value of the item.. I also find that their prices are very competative and i love the spend £50 get £5 voucher back offers. And no i dont work for Argos I work in the NHS! UNFORTUNATELY.

I love Argos, Tesco and Boots. I am a shopaholic!

actually depending on the item, if it is outside 30 days it is subject to a repair

Well it depends what type of stock you mean…

    Good Stock --

"Real" Brands after it's taken out of the cat at cat changeover (Jan and Jul) -gets sent back to the manufactures 2-3 weeks after the changeover. It then ends up in various places like their clearance village outlets, some internet clearance sites, eBay wholesale / job lots, market traders and shopping TV (yes big shock- bid and pricedrop sell off loads of clearance stuff that no one wanted to buy in the first place, plus charge you F****** loads for the phone call and “random 7 day delivery charge” PER ITEM – but that’s a rant for elsewhere)

Argos Brands (Challenge, Co*kworks, Mega Motors etc) and other Direct Importers stuff (and Sony for some reason) after it’s taken out of the cat at cat changeover- Argos try and sell as much of this as they can in store and then it goes off to their Clearance bargains stores or sold off on pallets sometimes reappearing on eBay a few days later. Some items which other companies are interested in (such as Nicky Clark hair care stuff for example) gets sent back and sold off to them directly(again ending up in places such as clearance village outlets, some internet clearance sites, eBay wholesale / job lots, market traders and the hell that can be shopping TV) .

Returned as 16 day UNUSED items—

Checked (or supposed to be if staff are doing their job right) to make sure it isn’t used and within 16days and with receipt and undamaged packaging – i.e AS NEW , goes back into the stores stock in the stockroom.

    Damages –

Get shipped to a central damages centre near Birmingham (except jewellery). From there on not sure. Some of it ends up on ebay (look for catalogue returns under job lots and anything with a yellow sticker 3”x2” has been damaged off).

If anyone else knows any more about damages please enlighten us.

This is what I’ve gathered from my tenure at Argos (some may be inaccurate though, I’ll correct it if anyone knows better.)

Comments - I have been trying to order two of these golf clubs for over a week

without success. Today the website says they will be available on Wednesday the
19th in Bangor and Newtownards, but will not allow me to reserve them. I would
like to know why this service is not available to me, as I really wanted two
    clubs for my children"

    "Dear Mr

Thank you for your recent letter regarding the availability of a Howson Golf Driver. I am concerned to note the difficulties you have experienced when attempting to purchase this item and would like to apologise for any disappointment and inconvenience caused.

Can I assure you that we do take stock availability seriously, as this is an integral part of our business. Our stock control team make every effort to ensure that sufficient stock is held of all products, although this may not always be possible and all items are subject to availability.

This particular item is a clearance line which was not continued from our previous catalogue into our spring and summer catalogue. I regret, therefore, that we will not be getting any further stock of this item into our stores.

I do appreciate the disappointment you have experienced and hope that you will accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Yours sincerely
    Sue Bradbury
    Correspondence Coordinator"

    Any suggestions

Hmmm, try getting a phone number for one of the stores from customer services, and contact them direct they will be able to see exactly what stock they have incoming (if any), and reserve for you, i do find it a bit strange they would be recieving an RO item at this time of the year, as a full RO recall can't be far off now, seing as how the company have stopped pushing the sales drive.

they really should remove (or at least trim down) the cat clearance section on the website - it's very misleading when some products are sold out everywhere already. It's no good showing stuff that isn't avalible any more

hey... Ive been playing around with the Argos website looking at these golf clubs and it tells me that a local store will be having one in on Wednesday, which it has been telling me for the last two weeks. I know this is not true because I work at the store in question and we have had no deliveries in and have none scheduled to come in. It does the same when I try any other local store, which I have checked and they are also not due to have any in according to their stock system. It seems to me there is a problem with the website....

Surely that means you can order them in to collect for Wednesday?

If they were coming into my store on Wednesday I would be able to see it on the stock system in store - its not on there. The website also told me last week we would be having some in for collection last Wednesday - nothing on the system and none came in - hence why Im thinking its a glitch. It would be very very very unusual for any clearance stock to still be coming into stores halfway through the life of a catalogue - its generally stores that have them will sell them off.
