MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Should Cheryl substitute Ashley’s mayo?

Why pay more, as someone who loves mayonnaise its not worth paying more if they can't tell the difference (but do read the ingredients there are often big differences). Even better make your own, it is easy, fresh, costs less and you can make it exactly as you like.
Why anyone buys Hellmans or low fat mayo is beyond me.0 -
You know what, further to previous posts I made the cheapest and healthiest alternative here is for Ashley to stop smothering his food with mayo. It is just fat and cholestorol anyway. He is meant to be a health freak/ athlete anyway and if I was Cheryl I would be upset that he smothered the food I'd cooked or prepared in sauces. There are people who do that with ketchup or brown sauce etc and I know I'd find it an insult to the good home cooking/ food I have prepared.as all you can taste is the sauce. Just give them a plate of sauce... ewwwwWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Keep buying it until he cant deny that he has eaten it regularly without complaint.
He should be glad she is saving money where she can.0 -
I've never pretended that something is a premium brand as opposed to a cheaper version but I don't always tell MrS that it's different either.
Generally he'll eat anything I put in front of him (think hoover ) but if he complains about something he doesn't like I try a different (still cheaper) version until I find one he does like.
I don't think Cheryl is wrong to switch brands but it is a bit dishonest to keep filling up the jar. Just tell him - he can hardly say he doesn't like it now can he?0 -
My hubby doesn't shop, so he gets what he's given. If he eats the alt mayo with no problems then I'd tell him what he was eating, and let him deal with it!!
I would not go to the trouble of using the helmans jar again - you'd never get the inside clean enough to use again without damaging the label - what a lot of hassle.
Not sure whether helmans make mayo for anyone else, but they might do, and we may be saving money and still getting the same stuff. As we are only downgrading 1 level, it's not as if we're going for the value stuff.Always on the look out for a bargain. :smileyhea Thanks if you've helped me bag one.0 -
Buy some fresh eggs and good olive oil and make your own mayo - better than any brand any day, and if you make it as you go along MILES cheaper too!0

Deception is deception and deceived people, if they discover they're being deceived, usually feel a bit betrayed; so watch out - perhaps a little better to suggest a blind taste test to see if he can tell the difference in taste. The snobbery is another issue. Deceived, snobby people in my experience get a little humpty and can do strange things. Who would conceive that mayonnaise could be the catalyst for a culture clash or marital disharmony?0

Maybe it's not a good thing but I have this kind of "deception" going on with my partner all the time. He refuses to cook with some old vegetables because they look "gone off" (a bit old and wrinkly, but nothing wrong with them). I put them in a stir fry the next day and he eats them with gusto.
I wouldn't go as far as changing the mayo over, but I would probably buy one and then use it for him whenever I made his sandwiches/food. If he wanted to use the expensive one he would have to buy/make his own food!
My boyfriend will only ever buy macleans toothpaste which is often expensive and I refuse to buy it on principle so he buys it instead. That works fine. Anything he wants to be snobby about he has to buy himself.
A friend of mine was being eaten out of house and home by her boyfriend so started substituting beef mince for soya mince in dishes with a lot of sauce. 2 years on he has never worked it out. My boyfriend told me if I did that to him it would be a dumpable offence however so I'm not trying that one!Achieved last year: New isa savings! - £2000
Credit rating improved by Capital One Classic Credit card, finally been accepted on a phone contract! :j
Debts: Credit card: [STRIKE]£1600[/STRIKE] - £145 (not paying interest). Debenhams store card: £512 - £313. Owe to boyfriend - ????0 -
Cash-strapped Cheryl should ditch Ashley and head off into the sunset with Simon:D0

If he's that particular, he should be making his own mayonnaise from scratch, and they would both have a better mayonnaise experience (though probably not save any money on it).0
