They used to sell cruets for doing just this. I don't see why she shouldn't do this, or why she should tell him.

Absolutely yes! What the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve over!
  • Make homemade mayonaise, it tastes different, but LOADS better, it is better for you, and can be made free range and organic if that would make a difference. It is also dead cheap. My mayonaise is the only mayo we eat in our house now (and I work full time).

September £10.00 a day challenge £2.50 per day = £75 for the month. £7.84 down £63.16 to go
  • If "Ashley" doesn't notice a taste change then by all means swap to the next level lower, but I would be careful on some items (especially mayo and tomato ketchup - can taste more vinegary than branded) but another caution is getting over-used to cheap brands, when you go out and they serve branded items, it can get a bit too much on occasion.;)

    No.
Hellmanns is made with free range eggs.
Value and even own brand are made with battery eggs.
We used finest organic for ages because it was the only one that used free range eggs.
Then Hellmanns changed last summar and we 'downshifted' to Hellmanns.

She shouldn't tell him. I am a bit of a brand snob myself, and if i was in that situation i would rather not know

Oh dear ! - what a lot of knickers in a twist - my dad was a snob bless him and would only wear expensive clothes - certainly not M&S or sutchlike.
My mum - bless her - always managed to buy presents for us all from the money saved from her housekeeping allowance - £20 per week in those days - and she would buy an M&S jumper, cut the label off and wrap it in a bag from the posh shop on Bold Street Liverpool ( Jaeger or similar if I remember correctly ).Pa was happy,Mum was happy and he never let on if he knew.
If Ashley is such a snob then give him his cheap mayo in a Helleman`s jar - it`s a win win situation which helps any relationship ( mine is 40 years this year so I know a little white lie can help rather than hinder ).
As a retired masterchef of course I have to say that Cheryl really should cut out all the middlemen and make her own - really simple, fresh,no odd additives and quite simple to make.........................................The two of them could even make it together and strengthen their relationship ( bind it ? Whip it into shape ? Sorry too much sun lol )
  • I don't see why she can't keep doing what she's doing. If he finds out and doesn't like it he can always start doing the shopping and cooking instead.

Yes why shouldnt she? if he honestly can't tell then he is just being a snob about it all anyway.Til I told me flatmate he was drinking Sainsburys basics tea thinking it was Tetley for ages.I cna notice the difference with these 2 but Sainsburys is a totally acceptable cheaper substitute and now I only keep some Tetleys in for a rare treat
