MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Should Cheryl substitute Ashley’s mayo?

  • Cheryl should stop pandering to Ashley's whims & not only swap the mayo, but tell him why. If he doesn't approve of that then he should get himself down to the supermarket & while buying what he wants look at the difference in cost.

If they are that short of money then they have bigger problems than what brand of mayo to buy. If it was me I'd tell him its own-lable or nothing, then send him out to the shopping himself on a strict budget and see how he likes it. It's only mayo for chrissake not life or death.

  • absolutley not..... she should give him some slaps and tell him to stop being a baby, but dont think there are any degrees where it is OK to deceive your partner deliverately for any length of time*

*unless its like a surprise holiday/present or something!

If I was your wife then I would be wondering why I was with someone so suspicious when all I was trying to do was save us money.

In fact, I wouldnt be with you at all if that was your attitude!

If you was my missus that would give me an excuse to crack open a jar of Helmann's to celebrate.

As we do not have a regular income we buy a lot of Morrisons "Value" range. If the items in question are for ingredients (flour, pasta, tinned toms, etc) then you really don't notice any difference, except on the bill, but there are 3 things we both refuse to cut corners on...............Coffee (Maxwell House or Carte Noire for me, Strength 5 Cafe Direct Espresso for him), Mayo (Hellmanns) and Tomato Ketchup (Heinz). We have tried to use cheaper brands but they are NASTY! We have set aside cupboard space for bargain buys and always buy these 3 items (and others of course) when they are on BOGOF or other special offers, whether we need them straight away or not, buying the longest sell-by dates we can find. We usually find that these offers go in cycles, so by the time we are getting towards needing it the offer is on again. We currently aslo have a tuna mountain as they had it Buy 4 get 4 free! Can't turn that down! :T

Luckily I haven't had to buy value brands, but I do wonder whether they have more junk ingredients in them, so if the man is health conscious about what he puts in his body (probably not though if he troughs huge quantities of mayo) then I don't think it would be right to deceive him. A bit like passing off conventional food as organic.

I take that Cheryl does the shopping without Ashley? She should continue to buy own brand food and Ashley can either eat it or go hungry. No need to hide it.

I say carry on buying the cheap stuff and filling up the jar.

I've done it - my 'labels snob' partner never knows - I even now some stuff that's produced in the same factory to the same recipe for 1/2 the price on the shelf, so why not?
  • Cheryl should start making homemade mayo. Her husband will be so impressed by having such a clever wife that he wont miss his branded type. Cheryl will save her pennies and no-one will be deceived.

Alternately, if she really has married such a daft narrow minded man, switch all produce to non-branded goods without even telling him and buy herself something nice with the money she's saved.
  • No Cheryl don't tell him, as soon as you do he'll notice the difference, even if he just thinks he does. His taste buds can't be much good I can tell the difference straight away.
