Don't you just the Labour Party? Every time they get into power, we give them all our money and then squabble over a jar of Mayo or get all tingly over Nectar points.
  • Ha! Definitely swap for the cheaper alternative. My OH would only eat Heinz Baked Beans and wouldn't consider swapping. I bought Sainsbury's own brand beans and a few nights later asked him if his beans were alright. "Oh yes, they're really nice" he said. Ha ha you're eating Sainsbury's beans. Now he can't stand Heinz beans and only eats Sainsbury's!! :rotfl:It worked for ketchup too!! :T :T

Cheryl must have the patience of a saint already. I have people in my extended family like Ashley, and they're a total pain.

Deceive him for the time being, Cheryl - but think hard about dumping the snob altogether.

    Haha what

Ashley: I much prefer Hellman's over Asda Smartprice when it comes to mayonnaise. Let's not downshift on that one.
Cheryl: Right that's it, I'm filing for divorce!
Solicitor: Okay then let's see, you're divorcing over.... mayonnaise....

Did we all see the BBC TV program where they substituted the generic pills for the branded pain killer pills and vice versa?
They then stuck pins into the human guinea pigs.

    Guess what?
The type of pill made not difference BUT the pills from the posh bottle with a fancy brand name were significantly better at reducing the pain.
Yes branding and advertising really does work!
We are such easily influenced suckers.

Carry on buying what you are getting now. There are thousands if not millions of these lable snobs about. I bet most of them NEVER watch commercial TV either.

If she keeps filling up the same jar, at some stage he will notice that the sell by date is like 3 years old!!!

Just tell him straight. Anyway why isn't Ashley contributing to the food shopping. He's taking the mick!!

I like brand stuff but I recently started using CIEN shower gel from Lidl. Cost 49p for 300ml. Loads of different fragrances, lathers up lovely!!!!

I agree with all of you who would advise Cheryl to opt for the 'ultimate haute cuisine' alternative and make mayonnaise herself.

Here's how to do it. It's easiest with a food processor (but on holiday I have been known to spend half an hour on it using just a fork and a protesting wrist). You can use the normal blades, you don't really need the whisk attachment.

Put one to three eggs into the bowl, then process at high speed until it is creamy and the yellow colour of the eggs looks much lighter. Then drizzle in the oil in a steady small stream. You'll need quite a lot of oil. The trick is not to use too much oil at a time: give the machine a chance to whisk it into the egg. At first it will look quite runny, but there soon will come a time when it gets thicker quickly. At the end, add any other ingredients: the classic ones are small amounts of vinegar, salt and paprika and mustard. Experiment with other ingredients like for example garlic, fresh herbs or capers.

If you want your mayo to taste really divine, use only the yolks of the eggs in the ratio of about 20% egg yolk and 80% oil. It's fingerlickin' good!! :T
  • Just tell the man!! Do a "Martin" :money:and work out how much they'll save over a year - maybe the money-saving opportunity will stop him being such a spoiled brat over his food!!

PS - Weightwatchers mayo for me please - not cos I'm dieting (although it is almost half the calories of Hellmans) but it's cheaper and not vinegary like some cheaper brands.
  • why just stop at the mayo, ive been changing our brands for years and they don't know the difference too much, some own brands are better than branded. :rotfl:
