I spent £6.75 in Mr S today, entirely on irresistible whoopsies! :oFor this I got ½ lb dry cured bacon, similar amount of Lincolnshire Poacher cheese, 2 lemon sole fillets, 2 line caught cod fillets, 1 TTD smoked haddock fillet & 1 tuna steak. :j

Didn’t need any of these for this month & are stocked in the freezer for September (as we are in Oz in August0. But by keeping a rolling stock of YS meat, fish etc. in the freezer means I always have something available & can wait to get more when it is reduced.

Will need to get some bits & bobs on the regular Thursday weekly top-up shop, but shouldn’t be too much & should then get us through to the end of term. Not too worried after that, as DD will be at her Dad’s from then until we go to Oz & I’ll be OK just using up what is actually in.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the comments about lunch boxes v school dinners. I did a quick calculation and worked out that the lunch boxes are around half the price of school dinners so I suppose not too bad!!:p I could make it cheaper by putting junk food in but I'm a bit obsessive about trying to eat healthily. When my older 2 were little I used to give 'em choccie biccies and cheap n nasty crisps and the cheapest cooked meat on the cheapest white bread but have watched too much 'You are what you eat' now. lol!!:D

Went to watch DD3 at a choral concert on Sun and ended up spending £7.50 on crap!! Bought me and DS2 a drink whilst we watched and then DD was 'starving' when she finished so went to the beach cafe for a snack!!! Still didn't have to make them tea so could've been worse! But a bit miffed, specially since half of it was on drinks and if I'd been more organised I could've taken some with me!

Spent another £3 today on bread and milk. Need to do a bit of a 'stock take' and see what I'm gonna need for rest of week so I can get organised. Not been well for past couple of days so 'lost it' a bit with the mealplanning. Still I've hardly eaten so that'll help the budget;)

Well spose better get on with it.

    See ya soon. X

Well my 'little shop' today ended up costing me £16.03  - it was mainly loo roll and rim blocks that put the price up but I did have some silly woooopsies. Ended up buying 6 american pancakes and some kiddies paint sponges that were in no way needed!! This plus some chicken bites (not even real food:o) have just about put my GC out the window. Will do my best to pull it back next week.
Off to update my sig and scoff some pancakes

I've spent just under £50 today, mostly on meat, fruit and veg.
    I won't mention the penguin biscuits :p

I've enough meat in the freezer to last the month and pretty full cupboards so I don't think I'll need to shop for the next 2 weeks except for milk and fresh veg ... those famous last words again! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Morning everyone - should be another NSD for me today.:T

The Courgette Fritters last night were yummy so another recipe that I will be using again.;)

Dinner tonight will be using up some more stuff from the Freezer so we are all having something different as I have a few individual portions of things left, 1 portion HM shepherdess pie, 1 portion HM Lasagne etc etc - should make dinner interesting.:rotfl:

Hope you all have a good day.:D

Oooh can I recommend the Sticky Chicken link on the front of the thread. I tried this receipe the other night and it was absolutely delicious. Hubby wants me to do some more so we can let it go cold and he can take some to work with his packing up. Think next time I do it I will double it up.

    Just a quick thought / question ...

I like to make up a salad at home, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, etc, but I find that it never last long enough. I keep it in one of those clippy plastic boxes in the fridge but as there are only two of us it seems to go off by the time we have got half way through it.
Any ideas on how I can make it last longer?

Tip I found on one of Jamie Oliver's shows, wash lettuce and put in clean, damp tea towel and place in crisper box of fridge - I have tried this for the last couple of weeks and find it works really well. Haven't tried with shop bought leaves but certainly OK with home grown ones.

I also found when buying packs of leaves that more than half would get thrown out as there are only 2 of us, so now having the homegrown ones, not only do they taste better, there is less waste.
  • Finally got round to updating my spending. Although in grocery budget I have "blown" my amount for household stuff, so far I have spent £110.59/£165. For household stuff I was meant to have £20 of that, but have spent £23.86 :o Have to cut back on the food front. Have spent £74.40 of the £130 on food so doing well in that part. Still 23 days to go!!!!

    Going to update my siggy!
