PS I bought a chunk of parmesan yesterday. Can I cut it into lumps and freeze it for later grating or should I grate it then freeze? Actually does it cope with freezing at all?
:rotfl:
I always grate, then freeze (in an empty margarine tub). It copes just fine - if you scoop out a couple of spoonfuls 15-30 minutes before dinner, it'll be at room temperature by the time you dish up.0 -
It won't save masses but would your children eat cheese that you'd cut into cubes or sticks instead of BabyBel's or the like? I also used to bulk buy the yoghurt tubes when they were on BOGOF and freeze them to keep the cost down. I actually put my DS3 back on school lunches last September as the cost of the lunchbox was getting ridiculous  Fortunately he's at primary school & the lunches are healthy ..... He starts at High School this time though so I'll have the debate all over again
My DS2 finishes Primary School this year he has had hot lunches up until Whitsun halfterm, now back onto packup, it seems to costs more for packup than the school lunch(main, dessert, and bread), and he comes home hungry whereas on hot lunch was still full.
DS1 has school lunch and although he does come home "starving", he gets enough at school to keep him going through the day. He takes a drink with him. Meal Deal is £1.40 and then snacks/desserts range from 40p.
DS2 will do the same come SeptMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
Just a quick thought / question ...
I like to make up a salad at home, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, etc, but I find that it never last long enough. I keep it in one of those clippy plastic boxes in the fridge but as there are only two of us it seems to go off by the time we have got half way through it.
Any ideas on how I can make it last longer?Mortgage: Jun 08 £155300~Repayment Made: £4300~Remaining: Mar 10 £151000DFW Nerd 1190

I tend to buy unwashed stuff as it seems to keep better or living salad if I spot it (I got some in Lidl on Friday). My local farmers market salad leaf bags keep really well (presumable far fresher than tesco etc). I'm trying to grow my own too but I don't really have enough room to grow quite enough to keep me in salad all the time... (also I haven't really got the hang of successive sowing so its a bit of a feast/famine thing too... ooops!) Not sure about keeping the cucumber/toms better - I'm allergic to raw toms and only cut the cuc as and when I need it.Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Took one of the twins to the supermarket. Mr T. and crumbed ham was on special offer at half price so I bought a little bit as a treat! Been on the luncheon meat for a few weeks now, but thought DS might like it while I am away this week. 54p a 100g. on the deli counter. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

thank you0 -
NSD for me (yesterday) and am well on track for meeting target this month. Hope to save $900 this month from the housekeeping budget. Freezer, fridge, vegetable gardens and pantry all full, so will just have to buy milk, cat and dog food.0
