Would have been nothing (I hoped) but couldnt get Mr T's own pesto last night as it seems to have dissappeared from the shelves and refused to pay £1.99 for Sacla sooooooo had a trip to Aldi today and get their signature one for 99p. Even managed to get it and go straight to the checkout without looking round :D
Not brave enough to update sig just now (dont like to tempt fate) so will do it later.......

  • Hi everyone

I went to Sainsbugs today and spent £4.92 and got 6 chicken leg quarters and 10 slices of gouda cheese, and am pleased with that. I am enjoying reading all the posts and thanx to everyone for their kind wishes and lovely hugs. I have also finally got around to updating my signature.

thanx also for the lovely recipes and for the sticky chicken recipe, am going to try and make that tonight.

    Cheers

Just been on to update my signature, I now have €200.74 left for 23 days......works out at €8.72 per day which sounds like lots as I have fish and meat in freezer for at least a week, even with visitors next week, but no doubt I shall be down to my last few cent by 25th!

Afternoon All! Bit slow keeping up with the thread this month, but what I have read is great, people come up with the brilliant tips/tricks/deals. We are supplementing a fair bit of our grocery shopping with things from the garden at the moment. The tomatoes are nearly ready now, although MrL had a great offer at the weekend for 1 kilo of vine tomatoes for 49p and they were lovely! We've cut down on the meat bill this month spending around £15 for the month instead of £25, this should last ok. Unfortunatley, we are having too many quick dinners at the moment as life is truely hectic. I really need to get back to batch cooking. The freezers don't look too bad, we have 8 litres of milk frozen, 3 kilos mature cheese and around 2 kilos of butter/spread, as well as frozen meat and veg. Hoping so much to make the grade this month. Need to buy cereal today though, so no NSD for me:o.
    Have a good day everyone

Seem a bit over target fo the 8th! But have 9 dinners in freezer so need no more meat/fish until next weekend :) Lidl here has a big veg sale on, 2 courgettes 26p and aubergine 20p. Plan is to make roast veg for wraps and maybe some ratatouille (sp?) And freeze as have punnet of mushrooms and some peppers in fridge to use up. Lookin on net abt freezing them, anyone done it before? Should be enough for 2 lunches and 2 veggie dinners I think.

My DS2 finishes Primary School this year he has had hot lunches up until Whitsun halfterm, now back onto packup, it seems to costs more for packup than the school lunch(main, dessert, and bread), and he comes home hungry whereas on hot lunch was still full.

DS1 has school lunch and although he does come home "starving", he gets enough at school to keep him going through the day. He takes a drink with him. Meal Deal is £1.40 and then snacks/desserts range from 40p.

DS2 will do the same come Sept
That's what the elder 3 children do/have done although DD takes pack ups as she does a week in college then a week in a childcare setting (she's doing a Childcare Diploma) and it's easier for her to have extra time at lunchtime to catch up on written stuff.

DS1 & DS2 come home 'starving' every day it's like filling up bottomless pits :rotfl: They both top 6' and are always playing some kind of sport so it's only to be expected I suppose :D The high school has a swipe card/finger recognition system for lunches so I give them money to put on it once a month & request a statement twice a term so I can see what they've been eating ;)

I freeze peppers and mushrooms without cooking them into anything.

Peppers I seed and slice or dice before freezing.

Mushrooms - depending on the size/condition - get frozen whole, sliced or diced. Sliced or diced are best tray frozen before bagging, as they tend to freeze in one large clump otherwise ;)

Thanks. Was trying to batch cook and freeze. Saves oven time! Some sites say if roasted, frozen and defrosted the veg can be mushy.May give it a go anyway.

edit- found my answer, cook ratatouille, freeze, defrost for 6 hours. :)
Says freeze for 1 month tops but I don't think I'll stick to that.
