cleaning venetian blinds.......

  • Hi

I found a great gadget from lakeland limited for cleaning blinds and its only £2.93. It is one of the few products I've found that actually works. You slide it on the blind but then you can grip it and slide along so it drags all the muck off. Go to www.lakeland.co.uk and look at product number 21691 blind duster.

Hope this helps but I agree with the others - it's the most boring job in the world. I had to find something to use because my blinds don't come apart to be able to take them down and wash them in the bath!!

Hi DBL, thanks for the tip on the gadget from lakeland, it looks a perfect tool for a horrible job that is due to be tackled again shortly, BUT lakeland want £4.25 p+p for an item costing £2.98! What a rip off! Does anyone know if this gadget is available in the shops to buy?

Just read though all the advice and will try the socks with various liquids.

I bought the Lakeland gadget, but found it too bulky for my thin slat aluminium blinds.

    Thanks for all the tips.

Success! I used old socks, two on one hand, and meths.

Got a rick in my neck and stiff hands, but a clean blind in the bathroom.

  • Hello all,

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning venetian blinds? We've moved to what appears to be a very dusty road and they are constantly thick with dust. I tried one of those 'pincer' duster things but they take forever and aren't that effective.

    Any thoughts gratefully received :)

Hi, I love the blinds in our office - they are silver metal venetian blinds and look great, but are a nightmare to clean. The only way to get them looking really good is to take them down and wash them in soapy water but if yours need regularly cleaning this isnt going to be practical. If they are wooden blinds obviously this is going to be no good anyway.

Damp dusting works but the cloth needs to be just slightly damp and you need to go over each strip individually which takes forever!

I have one of those fluffy dusters on a stick and if you dust daily with that you can probably stop the dirt building up. I am looking at my blinds now and they are not particularly sparkly - maybe someone will come along and help us both!!!

I believe that furniture polish helps not only to get rid of the dust, but can act as a repellent, and the surface of it makes it easier to dust the next time, so perhaps a quick spritz over the blinds when you've finished might help?

This gadget is also rated well in Lakeland http://www.lakeland.co.uk/21691/Microfibre-Venetian-Blind-Duster

I have got vertical venetion blinds on my patio doors and one of the kids tripped over the back door with muddy boots and covered the cream blinds in mud.

The blinds are a strange sort of material like a cross between rigid paper and fabric.

I haven't got a clue how to clean them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :T
