Its used to pass digital sound to a AV receiver e.g a 5.1 surround sound system. If look on back of the box on sky plus and hd you will see it there and glows red.
    Kind Regards

Aha - The lack of a surround system in my household explains my lack of knowledge! :)

I got it offered for £49 plus the £9.99 a month when trying to cancel.

edit. Rung back 20 mins later and got sky plus for free plus free installation. Keep ringing back until you get the offer you want.

We got the free hd box deal with tesco last week - but when the engineer called to install it - the HDMI lead would not stretch from the box to my tv ( 40 inch) as it was only 1 metre long! Telephoned Sky to complain and was eventually ( after they cut me off then left me hanging on) given a £10 credit to buy a cable - chap told me I could get one in Asda for £7

i did this, i.e. tell them i'm fed up of new customers getting deals when i've been with them for 12 years continuous.

they only offered a 20% discount on the subsciption, wouldn't even give me a Sky+ or HD box unless i paid the full asking price.

so i cancelled in June. Now they keep writing and asking to call them on how i want my credit back, i guess so they can try and sell me something.
