I would disagree but I accept it's a personal thing.
The Sky+ alone with the hard disc and twin channel record ability is worth the £10/mth alone if you are on standard sky currently like we were until a month ago, we haven't looked back.
Put it this way,£10 per month, it's £120 over a year interest free for a twin tuner hard disc recorder that looks smart in the cabinet, give 30 days notice to cancel Sky HD package in 11 months (set a nagging reminder on your Outlook calender) and you've got a £300 machine for £120 interest free credit, excluding the bonus? of HD channels if you've got a HD TV. It's got scart so it'll work perfectly well with your old TV just as your old Sky box does - do it, you'll love it !. :drool:0 -

I thought that the recording functionality does not work without a sky subscription - at least that's what Sky told me?0 -

I haven't said don't take the sky subscription, I said you HAVE to take the £10 per month HD subscription to get the box but it's worth it regardless of if you watch the specific HD channels or not.0 -
I think what Kranti is getting at - is if you dump the HD subscription at the end of the 12 months - then you'll have a SKY HD box that isn't/can't receive HD broadcasts.
Of course you'll still have the Sky+ functionality - but all that means is that you've got a glorified Sky+ box - that you probably could have got for free in the first place? ie without paying the initial £120 HD subs.0 -

I'm not willing to pay £109 for a new box and installation so may end up threatening to cancel.
Being honest they dont seem to care at the moment! We have just cancelled one subscription and were offered nothing at all to stay.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -

That's fair enough, I preferred the looks, functionality and bigger hard disc of the new HD box, but it's a personal preference and £10 per month for what is still SKY+ so I do take the point :cool:0 -

I was told by a rep that there will be a HD offer from 5th February. He didn't know what it would be though.0

I've just upgraded from my very old standard sky box for £44. That included standard installation, a new Sky + HD box, new dish and new cables.
I don't have multi room and I don't have the HD channels so no extra £10 per month and I only have the entertainment pack but have been with them for 7 years.
The way I got my new sky + HD Box was I phoned their free phone number 0800 0466432 and asked to be put through to cancellations. I told them that my old box had packed up and I wanted to leave as I'm not paying for a service I couldn't get. I then said I would stay if I could get a free sky + box to which I was told they didn't do those any more but could give me a new HD box for £25 plus standard installation for £19 = £440
