phoned Sky tonight having read this thread and others, after getting HD. We already had Sky+ and the "six mix" with "dual sports" as well as Everyday broadband. I said I'd seen the free offer for new customers but also was thinking of going down the freesat route or even Virgin (a lie!). They offered me free installtion + £29 Sky HD box straight away (£9.75/mo extra HD sub of course). I asked about switching to SkyTalk (we're with BT) and they said right away they'd give us 12 months free line rental (£11/mo saving on Sky rates, £12.50/mo saving on BT rates) - so this has more than paid for the extra HD sub. In addition they said that the move to Sky Talk brings our broadband down by £5/month! After a bit of haggling, when the guy finally started to put the order thru he also agreed to give us the brand new HD box for nothing. Result! Not sure if this was cancellations dept, though I did press 5 and 1 when I got thru to Cust Services but at no point said I was thinking of cancelling....

Well done on getting that deal. It sounds like you didnt have to try very hard.
I've been trying to get the same kind of deal but im not having any luck.

I'm happy to pay up to £49 for the HD box (anything less or free would be a bonus), if i get free install, and also would like to move over to sky talk from BT if they give 12 months free line rental. I have phoned cancellations twice and they say that have never heard of this offer before.

I've been going throught the 0800 number though, and getting through someone else first then been transferred to cancellations.

This is what a person has asked me via pm, so maybe shed some light for others.
Hi, I just noticed your posts about the Amstrad box and the optical output problems. Did you ever get this resolved? I got an Amstrad box today and can't get the optical output to work at all. It was fine with the Sky + box. Cheers. Chris

I called them up and said other users have reported that the amstrad boxes do not work with optical, they will try and palm you off by saying use phono leads. Tell them no and tell them you want a pace box. When it comes round to the install date the installer will call you. Tell him it must be a pace box as amstrad does not work with optical and he will then try and find you a pace box, well my guy did. Also make sure they bring the new box in a black sky hd box not a brown box with nothing on it, if its a brown box then its a refurbished box and you are entitled to a new box up to 30 days. I hope this helps.
    Kind Regards
    Bill

Ring 08442 41 41 41 and there is an option for cancellations, give that a try.

Thanks so much!! just rang the number and have arranged for it to be installed on Friday! :j at a cost of £30 plus £9.75 monthly charge for HD.
  • Yea got sky HD for £0 and free installation and can have any package I want and can change to any other at any time.

I stopped sky a few months back and for some reason couldn't get thr freesat channels...think its a ploy myself.

So started phone call complaining about this but now having to come back to them or go with virgin to be able watch tv!!!

!st offer free HD and £29 install....ok i thought, but they wanted me to pay installation cost by card, told them i don't have credit cards!!!!

She then said hold on i'll see if i can better the offer! hehe

Then lo and behold all free!!!!

    Yay!!!!!
  • No Joy here :(

Got through to cancellations and the system showed no offers other than £15 installation (plus£49 for box)

They claimed I was still under contract on my broadband and talk! I have been with them 2+ years on this account, with both talk and broadband so don't know why they think they are still contracted!

Stern letter to the complaints department but looks like they got me by the balls as they know I can't cancel!!!

I too have become some what disillusioned with Sky's attitutde to loyal customers who never seem to get the benefits afforded to new customers....so I decided to take a chance.
I rang Sky Customers Services (Frankie) and explained that I was thinking of leaving due to new customers getting all the reasonable offers and loyal customers getting the raw end of the deal. I said I was thinking of going down the Virgin or Freesat route as I felt agreived at having to pay £60 for a simple swap over installation, where new customers get it for free.
The upshot was, without any hesitation as follows:
Free HD box - saving £49.00
    Free Installation - saving £60.00
Swap to Sky Talk Phone - £11.49 per month FREE for 12 months - saving £137.88
Will also relocate my existing Sky+ box from lounge to bedroom for FREE
    Only cost £9.75 HD subscription
Total Saving £246.88......Result.....Being done Friday :T
Please do not think that I am trying to rub peoples noses in it... I genuinly am not. I am only trying to pass on info to other like minded people so they too can get the same or similar benefits with a bit of wheeling and dealing!
Give it a go....what have you got to lose. Ant

I did get 6 months free Sky Talk anytime (it's going to be £4.95 a month after that, but still cheaper than I was paying before, as we couldn't keep our calls to evening only)

No chance of getting a Sky + box for anything less than £99..............in spite of the fact that the people over the border in Hampshire have had a £49 offer going! They went digital and we don't for another year or 2.
  • One can get a Scart to HDMI scaler for about £50 these days. It is rumoured that lots of channels are upscaled and broadcasted as HD? Why pay £9.75 + VAT for 12 months whilst one can get an upscaler for less than half that price!
