  • You don't have to wait - how long have you been with them in your current 'contract' - As we did cancel and rejoin 2 years ago, my subscription only looks like I am a 2 year customer so I got the £15 offer, and I only paid the basic £21.50 or so a month.

If you are outside the first year I suggest that you opught to be able to get what I got, i.e. a £15 outlay and £9.75 a month.

On a seperate note, whilst I am happy with the 160gb box and the quality of HD, I am dissapointed that the HD channels don't always show HD material.

I think BBC-HD does as it its neither BBC1 or BBC2-4, but a mix of them all; as for C4-HD it justs mirror C4 and only some is in HD. Likewise FX-HD.

I only hope more channels appear and more programming is in HD as 'standard' in the near future.

The box is huge BTW, and you can use your old Sky+ remote as a spare.

Also finally, the old Sky+ boxes are worth around £30 in online auctions so don't let the engineer 'dispose' of it for you (yeah right, they must sell them daily!)
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)

    Hello,

    Thx for your reply.

I have had Sky+ for 2 years, so I am out of contract. We have the basic package, with 4 of the mixes (no sport or movies). Been a Sky customer for over 15 years, back when it was analogue!

That is why I am reluctant. The £9.75 would be more justified if we were going to receive all of the HD channels, but it would only be the BBC/Channel 4/SciFi etc.

Thanks for the head-up on the HD content, just presumed the HD Channels would show HD all day!
  • You should get it for free, the guy I spoke to said I would except for my relatively short apparent membership.

Try again, now, but only speak to Cancellations dept, explain to the first line of defence that you spoke to cancellations before and they said to ask to speak to them again, it should speed up the time it takes to be xfered.

  • I called at about 10.30 and spoke to the sales women who could only offer me sky HD at £49 with £30 for installation, i told her this was a terrible way to treat a loyal sky customer of 9 years, so i asked for the number for cancellations, they gave it and i rang, a very nice scottish gentleman answered the phone and asked for my details and asked what he could do for me, so, i jumped straight in and said how i have my tv my internet and phone with sky and i would like to have hd, i had been a customer with sky for over 9 years and currently spend nearly £600ish a year and think with what offers are around at the minute, such as bt vision and virgin and freesat hd that if they cant come up with a better offer i will be cancelling today, the guy said very calmly that he would go through the cancellation in a minute but first wanted to ask me a few questions, all basically about if i liked sky, i said i did but felt neglected as a loyal customer and how unfair it is how new customers get all the deals, any way he said to me if he could come up with a good deal would i consider staying with sky, i said i would , and hey presto i now have on order a brand spanking HD box for £29 with free installation which should cost me £22 a month and the hd sub! so it definatly pays to moan!! lol:j
  • I called them to see if i could get a better deal, i currently pay £46.00 per month and wanted multiroom but could not justify £56.00. The person i spoke to was very rude and could/would only offer me the HD box for free, i explained to him that i don't have a HD TV and was just looking at reducing my monthly outgoings and that i could get the same deal with Virgin for only £30.00 per month. He basically told me to go to them but be warned about their customer services cause they are rude!! ( Pot Kettle ). Anyway i got nothing so will be cancelling and setting up again in my fellas name - you get much better deals as a new customer.

    Oh well

We cancelled our contract a couple of years ago when they had a similar deal for the Sky + boxes, wouldn't give us it for any cheaper I think it was £99 at the time, anyhow once we started the argument my hubby refused to back down and we ended up cancelling our sky package, much to my annoyance!!!! Anyhow morale of the story is we were without Sky for all of 10 days before we got a call from Sky begging us to come back to them and agreed to give us Sky + for about £29 so of course jumped at the offer :j
I'm thinking of trying it again, they have had us paying full whack at about £50 a month for the past few years, I don't mind paying the full price for the HD box if they do something about the monthly premiums, it's a rip off really as there is never anything decent to watch even with all those channels.

I have just phoned saying I want to cancel. All they offered was the HD box for £49 and free installation (still the £9.75 per month HD charge).
I am still currently cancelling - was hoping for a better deal!! I said I was had just got a new TV and was going to set Freesat. Got until 19th Sept for it to cancel.

Not sure what to do now! I suppose I have still saved £30 installation. I might phone back in a week or 2 and see what they say (saying I still want to cancel, but wonder what they had on offer etc).

I have since phoned Cancellations back, explaining that someone at work :) was offered the HD box for £15. He said that as I had already give notice to cancel they could not offer any 'retention' offers. After checking he said I had to cancel my cancel (!), ie, re-instate and then call back to cancel again and see what offers they would give. I said this would make me look daft (and that I didnt really want to cancel, so no leaway). Anyway, that was the only way, so I re-instated and called straight back.

The man I spoke to next (in Cancellations, on 0844 241 0623) was very helpful and explained that there are 3 criteria they base their offers on:

    1. What package you are on
    2. How long you have had an account with Sky
    3. If you subscribe to anything else

In the end, if I took out movies as well as my 4 mixes (£20.50 per month, now £36.50 per month) I could get a brand new HD box for £29 and free installation. Still have to pay the £9.75 per month for HD, of course.

I decided to do this, as we watch films anyway, but normally rent DVD's. Thought it would be a good chance to watch them in HD.

I didnt know that you could cancel movies after 1 month, so that is what I am going to do.

We have watched a few of the movies already. The HD box arrives this week.
  • That's far too basic an analysis of the fees;

    Free if new, agreed
Anything from Free to £79 (£49 +£30) for existing customers, dependent on member of staff spoken to, day of week, time of day, mood, how long been with Sky, likelihood of really cancelling.

Like I've said before, I got it for £15 and have been with Sky for <2yrs and have lowest package.

    Hello,

    I got Sky+HD yesterday, after having Sky+

We only have 4 mixes and dont have movies or sport. Had to sign up to movies for 1 month to get an offer on the Sky HD box, but I can still receive Eurosport HD and SkyArts HD, even though I cannot receive them in normal channels?

Does anyone know if this is correct, or will Sky twig and turn them off? It is great to watch tennis in HD on Eurosport!
